Our longtime competitor FNProgramvare (the maker of BookCAT) has ceased operations. We received loads of requests from current BookCAT users, seeking an alternative, for an import feature.
We have created and released a dedicated import routine for BookCAT users, wanting to switch to Book Collector. This import feature is available in Version Cobalt.3 build 1, released on January 9.
A very nice review of Book and Movie Collector on Sunilification. Here is a quote from it:
“Friends and readers would be aware of my woes of cataloguing books, DVDs and Blu Rays. I don’t own too many, roughly about 1200 books and 500 DVDs, but managing them can be a nightmare. Especially when items are regularly borrowed and returned. It took me a while to remember who hadn’t returned my copy of White Teeth or the original Festen.
For a long time now, I have been seeking a software to catalogue them or a barcode scanner that can scan and update the status of items when they are added or borrowed ( a la a public library). So far, I didn’t find anything that was complete or met all of my needs.
Last month, a friend suggested Collectorz. A visit on to their website and checking out the features of their products convinced me that they had what I was looking for. I have been using it over last couple of months and it runs like a dream. I think for people like me, who collect and manage books, I can’t recommend it enough.”

Hectic times here at the CLZ office in Amsterdam. We’ve completed some big releases and started on a couple of huge other projects. Some of which I will disclose in this newsletter (we’re back on Android!!), but others I have to keep quiet about for now.
First, here’s the new stuff we’ve launched this month:
- CLZ Barry for Android version 1.1
- Book Collector NINE for Mac OS X
- Core for Comics / Comic Collector 5.4
And this is what we’re working on now:
- CLZ app updates for Android ( join our CLZ Android Club! )
- Further improvements for the iOS apps
- Improvements to Connect software and cloud-syncing
- …. ?
Let me go over these in more details (warning: it’s lllloooonnnnnggggg).
Version 9 will give you automatic Author images and Wikipedia links, Author born/died information, Core for Books integration, integrated CLZ Barry support, plus a full cosmetic overhaul: Virtual Shelves, new icons, new templates, etc…
These new updates come highly recommended to all our existing Mac users.
Make sure to install the updates!
Use menu [name of app] Collector>Check for Updates to update to:
- Book Collector 8.2.1, released January 24
- Comic Collector 5.3.4, released February 5
- Movie Collector 8.3.2, released February 6

Keep an eye out for news about this upcoming major upgrade.
Book Collector NINE for Windows!
Version 9 will give you automatic Author images and Wikipedia links, Author born/died information, full Unicode support, an improved main screen, plus a full cosmetic overhaul: Virtual Shelves, new icons, new templates, etc…
As you probably know, we recently released version NINE of our DVD and Blu-Ray
database software Movie Collector, with new features and a complete new look.
After its launch, we got bombarded with questions from Book Collector users:
“When will you release these improvements for Book Collector?
Please tell me it is coming soon!”
We always aim to please, so we immediately got to work and
I can now announce that Book Collector NINE for Windows is coming soon!
As a careful user, you might be wondering if your Collectorz.com software works on it? And we’re happy to announce that you have nothing to worry about.
We can confirm that these Collectorz.com programs are working on Windows 8:
- Movie Collector 8
- Book Collector 8
- Music Collector 10
- Comic Collector 5
- Game Collector 5
Two months ago, we introduced Collectorz.com Core for Books.
Core for Books is a new system that lets Book Collector users help each other
by improving the quality and completeness of our central online book database.
Many Book Collector users immediately started using Core. Since the Core launch,
we have already received 4.000 new book entries and 10.000 data submissions.
Now imagine what would happen if *every* Book Collector user would just
ADD the missing books they run into and FIX the data errors they find.
Our programmer Robbert has been working on it behind the scenes for many months now, so we’re happy that we can finally tell you what it is:
Core is a new system that lets all Collectorz.com users help us improve the quality and completeness of our central online databases. It will replace the current “Submit to Collectorz.com” system. But Core is more than that, as it also lets you report data errors, missing entries and missing barcodes.
The book edition of Collectorz.com Core is live now and fully integrated in today’s 8.1 release of Book Collector for Windows. More »
