Latest software updates
By 2011, I had a girlfriend, another home and began to renew my collecting of BD titles. By 2014 I had over 1000 bd discs, and had replaced most of my DVD collection with updated BD discs. It seemed daily I was getting a delivery from Amazon or Walmart of multiple discs, Christmas was nearly a daily occurrence for me. Well, I may have a superior memory but it became impossible to remember a thousand titles and where they were located.
I began to search for the BEST archival software to arrange my collection. I actually started with a competitor (MM) but their SW required Windows Server, and many of their "updates" either removed or had glitches to features I really enjoyed. If something happened and you had to re-load your database through their server, the larger the collection, the slower the process. When I switched to Windows 10, they had an update that required to re-load the database again from their server....which was NEVER up-to-date. As a result I lost a lot of titles and work to personalize for me.
I began to search elsewhere not only for a functional archival SW similar to what I was using before, but one that DIDN'T require additional software downloads and updates similar to Windows Server. When I discovered Collectorz.com and the Movie Collector software, I found the perfect replacement. Not only are there many customizable options that are both user friendly and user intuitive, but I can actually SHARE my collection with family members. So when they ask, "Hey, can I borrow XXXXXXX to watch over the weekend, I know right where to find it!"
Now recently, I switched to the web-based Movie Connect browser format as opposed to having to download and update software versions. Its a lot like the Movie Collector software with less options....but I'm sure these will be added in the weeks to come.
Now I really haven't had to use support for too many issues, maybe 1 or 2 in the past year and a half I've been using the service. But all the contacts I've had have been quick and timely answers. Certainly a huge plus to continue with this company. I feel like I've been welcomed and appreciated here!
Reviews from customers
Then I found Collectorz.com and I was in pure Heaven! I love how I can have all of the information that's listed in the CLZ cloud/library in my database - now I have well over 2,985 videos (DVD's and Blu-ray's only) and I cherish the software and the company who makes it!
I can't thank you enough!
Especially comes in handy when I'm looking through the DVD bargain bins at WalMart, and I can check MovieCollector database on my iPhone to see if I already have that title!
I was lucky enough to discover this app and it was perfect for this chore. The scanning feature for the barcodes was extremely helpful, although I soon found many in my collection that weren't in their database, that I had to add, including adding a photo of the unique addition that I had that didn't match their photos. 1500+ titles later and I was done!
Now I just add new ones incrementally and I no longer end up buying ones I already own!
After trying a couple of alternatives, I found CLZ and realized that I had found the best fit for me. I have been collecting DVDs for a long time. I love movies --- all kinds. I am still and yet a huge fan of your fantastic product.
I truly do feel appreciative of the ease and extensive capabilities of your product. Thank you so much.
So I had then a bright idea – being quite good with generating spread sheets – I started my own! Initially I thought it would work, but pretty soon I figured out that it was just too time consuming and that the information I ended up with was very limited.
I started to research the net and I do not remember how many “fantastic” programs I tried – somehow they all seamed not right for what I wanted. Then – 16th August 2012 I came across a website called collectorz. Yes, like many other sites they promised the world – but they were putting their money where their mouth was by giving me a free download to try their program – which was apparently packed with all features - but limited to 50 movies.
Having noting to loose, I downloaded the software, installed it and due to the easy interface it took me very little time to fill the trail database up with 50 movies. I just open the folder where I had my other movies – scanned the movies in and of it went. It was a very simple process. After this was completed I investigated what the program had actually given me and instantly I recognized the real potential and what a gem the program actually turned out to be! I finally could sort by title, genre, year, actor, director, IMDB rating etc and so many other options – the sky was suddenly the limit. And then I printed my first list – three times (!) – once sorted by title and then by year and then by IMBD rating. The looked absolutely fantastic with little picture of the movie cover!
Because of my free download I had to give Collectorz my email address – I found in my inbox an email - “Hi there! This is Alwin Hoogerdijk of Collectorz.com. - Welcome and thanks for trying our Movie Collector software! As a reward for being a smart "try-before-you-buy" customer, I'd like to give you a US $5 discount on Movie Collector.” I ended up purchasing a day later on the 17th of August 2012 the program for grand total of $24.95 AUD! I guess it was one of the best purchases I had ever made on the internet!
I do not recall which version it was, but now after close to 5 years I am running V17.02. There where many up-dates and the program became better and better. But to judge the program properly I do think that the program alone is not complete with a good customer support. So I can say that over the years whenever I had question which was not instantly answered in detail by the great “help page” on their website – I just emailed collectorz a question and I always had an answer the next day. Please consider that I live on the opposite site of world and I am therefore I calling this a great effort!
So what can I say, looking at my movie collection – You ask me for a movie and I give you the movie! Just give me a second! And with the grand kids – I am the big star and favourite granddad – as soon they come over the kids asking me for the movie list and it takes them a while to choose the movie, because they just enjoy the many colourful movie cover pictures.
So if you have a movie collection and you do not know “WHAT” you actually have….just stop pulling your hair out and get the movie collectorz program!
I therefore close this letter with the statement that I do not know all movie collection programs – but this one is definitely a gem….
Thank you & best regards to Alwin, Syts and the whole team from OZ!
I have enjoyed using your excellent product and use it often on my desktop or sitting on my couch with my home theatre PC and 55 inch display. I often use my tablet (Android) and the Movie Collector app to gather information on the movie I'm watching, update notes, data and to put other movies on the "wish list".
Having just received an email from Alwin regarding the latest version I of course upgraded - the "cards" display feature is another welcome addition.
Again, thanks very much. It isn't often that you find software that is easy to use, reliable and above all so functional due to it's flexibility.
I just finished a gorgeous project to create an insert with full extension ball bearing drawer slides as a proper place to have complete access to my entire collection. It will hold well over 1000 to1300 DVD and blu ray discs which I will finally be able to see whenever I wish. Since I am retired and disabled with an arthritic spine which makes me use an electric wheelchair to get around.
My movies are very important and having this kind of database is really a godsend. the back and forth interface is brilliant and I have 5 devices to put them on,maybe over kill but so satisfying to just know I have them. If you have a movie collection and simply want to know what they are, you can scan the barcodes, or simply start typing in the name or other info.
I just can't imagine a better designed, well thought out impressive software that has matured over 15 years into something akin to a work of art. Getting to look at all the original cover art ads a beautiful glimpse into what the film makers intended to put on film with the proper flavors of their design.
This product works well with VLC Player. It's so much easier to rip my hundreds of titles to HDD and use this product to manage them.
I created several databases. One for the movies, one for the TV shows, and one for the music dvds. The info that downloads for the TV shows is WOW! I was so addicted to loading the movies in the first few days after purchase I spent 5 hours straight on the first batch...and did nothing but brag about it to friends and family. I have recommended this to all my friends that love their multimedia set-up as much as I do.
I was so impressed I purchased the .mp3 software as well. I consult a few radio stations and it is the perfect solution for data-basing and searching songs that aren't loaded into their existing
automation software and playing from a second tower through the broadcast console during request shows.
Am enjoying this de-cluttering :-)
I live in the Los Angeles area, and have a number of friends who are in the film industry, and have bought a couple of them copies of your program.
It is great, however, I have one complaint: I like it so much, that I become a bit obsessive with it and spend WAY too much time with it, as it is so enjoyable.
5 minutes testing it.....and he bought the pro version with a laser scanner!
A couple weeks later, I was looking at my book collection (rough guess, between my wife and I at least 10k) and realized....I know a company that makes a book collection software.......
10 minutes later...........bought it.
So basically, thank you for making some really great software that has made 2 new customers very happy....and these 2 will definitely recommend your products to others!
I will recommend your program software and scanner to all my friends and family.
Zeker een aanrader!
I do not know what I would do with my collection of over 1,600 dvds if it wasnt for the database.
Cue Cat scanner took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it - wow, simplicity!!
I had about 5 movies that didn't come up right away. But the tool to scan by title and then pick out the correct version worked like a charm.
catalogued about 250 dvd's with a bar code scanner in about half an hour.
So easy to add and great list of stats. 1,124 movies / TV Series, 82.6% DVDs 17.4% Blu-rays.
