Review: “Runs like a dream”

August 6th, 2013

A very nice review of Book and Movie Collector on Sunilification. Here is a quote from it:

“Friends and readers would be aware of my woes of cataloguing books, DVDs and Blu Rays. I don’t own too many, roughly about 1200 books and 500 DVDs, but managing them can be a nightmare. Especially when items are regularly borrowed and returned. It took me a while to remember who hadn’t returned my copy of White Teeth or the original Festen.

For a long time now, I have been seeking a software to catalogue them or a barcode scanner that can scan and update the status of items when they are added or borrowed ( a la a public library). So far, I didn’t find anything that was complete or met all of my needs.

Last month, a friend suggested Collectorz. A visit on to their website and checking out the features of their products convinced me that they had what I was looking for. I have been using it over last couple of months and it runs like a dream. I think for people like me, who collect and manage books, I can’t recommend it enough.”

An organized home is a happy home

November 29th, 2011

Way back when in 1996 Alwin Hoogerdijk, founder of Collectorz.com and my hubby, was sitting on a stack of CDs that were driving him insane. He finally got fed up with trying to remember what he had and where it was. So, he locked himself in a room and started writing a program that would keep track of everything for him.
You see, Alwin is a music lover by nature and a computer programmer by profession.

What about the Mac editions?

August 25th, 2011

Here’s a question we get a lot lately, in our support inbox,
on the Forum, on our Facebook page and on Twitter:

"What about the Mac editions?"

Or: when will there finally be an update for my Mac software?

Of course, the question is fully justified. The Mac editions of Music, Movie and Book Collector haven’t had a serious update for a long time.
Also, the new Comic Collector for Mac has not yet received the features left out of the 5.0 release.

Well, I am happy to announce that this is all going to change. Read on for our Mac OS X plans.

The Collectorz.com promo babes

May 24th, 2011

Comic Collector users know her for quite some time: CeCe. She is our action heroine and features in the comic cataloguing software, on banners, ads and on the website. She brings our software to life and that is why we asked the creator of CeCe, LoopyDave, to give her four siblings for the DVD, CD, book and game collection software.

From levitated fakir to sensible shoes

May 17th, 2011

Our first idea for the book organizer software was for an older fakir with a dragon-like creature on his shoulder. Smoking a pipe, reading a book.
Very funny character but it may be too much for our book audience. Because that is what we have to keep in mind: the mascotte must fit the crowd. We may like the levitated yogi and his pet dragon, but our home librarians not. The character must speak to them, otherwise she will be no good in advertising.

Never judge a book by its cover

May 10th, 2011

You know what they say, ‘Never judge a book by its cover’. Well the same quote applies to the Book Collector dame, although slightly altered.

Never judge a girl by her shoes

As heroic as CeCe, adventurous as Gemma and equally skilled as Mickie, Becky may not show it but she has it all.

Organizing the bookcase

April 27th, 2011

Organizing booksHow do your organize your books on your shelves?

Alphabetically by author? Or by title? Or just in order of purchase?
Have you tried sorting them by size, or by color?

Here’s a cool stop motion video, created by Sean Ohlenkamp & Lisa Blonder, exploring the possibilities.

Warning: don’t try this at home! You may end up wasting a lot of time that would have been better spent organizing your books with Book Collector 🙂
