Do you have any examples of titles or isbns that give no results? We tried them here and they do return results.

Hi Rinaro,

We've looked into the issue and it seems the web site that we contact for the Italian infosource is down or no longer exists. We've tried to find out if the url has been changed but were unsuccessful so far. Maybe their site (www.sbn.it) has problems and will be back up in a few days. We will keep monitoring this and in the meantime will look for a solution if this problem persists.

Please note that the Italian Infosource can only search for ISBN's formatted with dashes (e.g. 978-123-1234-123 instead of 9781231234123).

We recently fixed issues with the Casa del Libro infosource since the output format of their results had changed. What version of Book Collector are you using? In the latest version (5.0) it should have been fixed.

Hi Ronald,

thank you for your reply.

It seems their site is working again.

I didn't know that I had to use the dashes.
I tried it today with 10 number codes ISBN without problems.

Still can't find out how to do a search with 13 number isbn codes.
I never had 1 return with a 13 number code.
Maybe they don't support 13 number codes.

----

The casa del Libro infosource has never done a result in all these months I'm using the software. (10 and 13 numbers ISBN)
I have the new version (5.0) and still no returns.

Thanks,
Rinaro

Hi Rinaro,

Some of the info sources still don't support ISBN13 and I think you're right that the Italian info source is one of those.

Can you post some ISBNs and search terms that don't work for Casa del Libro?

Thanks,

Ronald

Yes,

I tried the same ISBN numbers as mentioned in one of my previous messages also in Casa del Libro:

9788804569145
9788850213290
8807840588

Thanks,
Rinaro

Rinaro,

Have your perl scripts been updated to the latest version? Make sure you have that setting enabled:
- Add book screen automatically (boeken automatisch toevoegen)
- Settings (instellingen)
- General Tab (algemeen)
- Make sure the 'Automatically update scripts' box is checked (automatisch scripts bijwerken)

This should have your Casa del Libro script updated to the latest version. It should find the following ISBNs:

8439713932
8496463117
8478449205

and e.g. for 'John Grisham' it should return 20 results.

Let me know if this fixes it for you.

Best regards,

Ronald

Yes, the ISBN books you mentioned gave results.

(The automatically update scripts box was checked)

The ISBN numbers I've mentioned still doesn't gave results (not with the 13 numbers or 10 numbers ISBN.

There is still another problem with italian books: I cannot use both info sources (Nat. Libr. Italy and Casa del Libro) because the first one uses dashes in the ISBN code, but it is not your fault.

Thanks again Ronald.

I have added 15 Italian books to my database, only 4 have been found in the national Italian library and not one book in Casa del Libro.
(I tried to insert the 10 and 13 number isbn)

It is much more time consuming to check if they are maybe in one of both libraries then immediately manually insert them.

Is there no way to resolve this problem?
thank you very much,
rinaro

Hi Rinaro,

In the latest version you should be able to just enter ISBN's using dashes. For the italian library source it leaves the dashes in but will remove those for any other info source automatically.

When it comes to finding books on both info sources there's not much we can do. Only if there's a problem with our scripts we can and will of course fix this however if the info source simply doesn't return any results we cannot do much about it. If you suspect that there is a bug in the script send an email to support with some ISBN's and we can test for bugs and fix em if needed.

Hi,

I'd like to add an information that might be useful. It looks like it's possible to get results from the Italian info source (National Library Italy) using ISBN-13 *without* dashes, I for example had results for:

9788817015349
9788838489419
9788884513441
9788804554509

Don't mind the books...

Se let's hope they're inserting the new ISBN-13 codes *without* dashes like everybody else in the world, since this would make life easier for people using barcode scanners (I use a Flic wireless). In the past, as you mentioned, ISBN-10 was inserted with dashes, and in addition the dashes were very often misplaced!

rakewell,

interesting, these are the first non dashed results I have seen from the National Library of Italy. As far as I can judge that can only mean they are making changes to their database.

Thanks for letting us know ! By running a little test it seems also ISBN 10 codes can deliver results when fed "undashed".

Check

I checked the codes, and I actually get results for ISBN-10 without dashes. However, I'm not sure they're actually migrating, they have probably many different formats in use...

I don't know which is the actual site you use for connecting (you probably use the Z39.50 interface - I don't know what it is :) ).

The National Library System (sbn, Sistema Bibliotecario Nazionale) apparently collects data from *many* libraries, not one central library only, and it looks like they're not very strict about standardization.

For example, for other Harry Potter books (in Italian translation) I can only get results with:

88-8451-637-4
88-7782-702-5

(at least the dashes are in the right place).

In the meantime I keep inserting books and see what happens.

Bruno

Excuse me Sirs
Is anyone able to explain to me why Italian must always the last!!
It’s really a shame!
Please consider to use another database
I’ve spent the whole evening looking for a program to catalogue books with codebar scanner yours seems to be fine but it’s not useable in Italy

Archivista is not as good as yours but works with decent data base!
Well the only decent database in iTaly seems to be this one :
http://www.libreriauniversitaria.it/c_a ... ?shelf=BIT
I ‘ve found a lot of books 1,5 millions books it’s not a lot but..it works!

www.deastore.com has 8 millions as well

what is biblioteca nazionale??
Please someone explain to those idiots what a codebar reader is!!

I’m really interested in your software but please..choose the right partners
;-)

Sorry for my english and for my yellin out… ;-)

longing for an answer
