Before every new export I deleted the iPhone directory (starting from scratch as it were). Only the first time with success (coincidence?).

Pinging the iPhone from the cmd line:

Request timed out. Sent 4 Lost 4 Received 0.

Note that I can ping the phone and the PC using the Set Up / Manager screen of the router individually but not it seems over through the router from the PC to the phone.

Netgear suggested a hard reset of the router which didn't help. (http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=43514)

I'm hoping that I've done something really stupid and missed something!!! Up to now I have tried with and without the firewall (Zone Alarm)/AV (Avira) software disabled/ connecting the PC via wireless and wired/exporting one CD/exporting one database/ a second PC with no success.

Thanks again Dinh,

Jim

I'm almost certain your issue is caused by a setting in the router, since you can't ping the iPhone from your PC. The iPhone is connected wirelessly, what about your PC? With a cable to the router or also wirelessly? As I mentioned, in the netgear router, there is a setting which you can isolate the wireless network from the wired network. That could explain why you can't ping your iPhone from your PC. Find that particular setting and disable it.

Well I don't seem to be getting anywhere with this. Like I have said I have tried using two different PC's both wired in and wireless into the router without any success.

I can't find any setting in the router set up to isolate the wireless from the wired.

To be honest I don't have anything strange in my set up here. I have a popular router that I'm sure Netgear have sold quite a lot of in the past. I have no problems with any other set up on my network including a printer/NAS/streaming. I've spent probably too much time on this already for what I have got out of it so far.

Okay... what do you suggest?

I hope you agree that if you can't even ping the iPhone, it is no surprise that the Export to iPhone doesn't work?

After a quick search in google I found the following picture:

Looks like that setting can be found under Wireless Settings (see your router's manual on page 4-4).

I also found a few topics related to connection issues between a wired and wireless device. Turned out it was caused by using WEP as Security Options. After the user changed to WPA-PSK, the issue was solved. Perhaps you could give that a try.

Here is my wireless set up page.
I have been all the way down the different security set ups with no success, even disabling any security as you can see.

I'm lost for any further suggestions.

True, I can't ping the phone from the laptop even though the Music Collector program can see the phone when trying to sync which is a bit strange? I've been through pretty much all the settings in the router I can think of. The only other thing is maybe the ports aren't being opened correctly?

Hope you don't mind me posting my comments on this issue. I tried pinging my iphone but without success. After restarting the wireless option on the iPhone several times, i could ping the iPhone and noticed that in that case everything is ok, replacing and updating. So I guess next time I first ensure that there is a connection between my pc and the iPhone, and only then I will replace or upgrade. I can live with that for the time being.

As I said, users of this router reported that after turning ON the WPA-PSK security option, they were able to make a connection between the wired and wireless device. I really suggest you give that a try.

The fact that Music Collector did find the iPhone isn't strange at all for us. It's a bit technical but in short, it has to do with incoming and outgoing restrictions.

In order to make the export work successfully, you have to make sure that a connection can be made to the iPhone/iPod Touch (by pinging it).

I'm thinking I might just go out and get a new router.

Which I did this morning.

I purchased an Apple Airport Extreme. Set it up and hey presto the sync worked first time. All 1200 titles firewall and anti virus on.

Be afraid.
