Hello, I've been using most of the Collectors for years. But I just built up a new Core i7 machine, so I've installed a fresh copy of Music Collector 8.7 Pro (on fully patched WinXP SP3 Pro). This machine has two SATA CD/DVD drives (Plextor PX880SA and LiteOn iHAS224-A).

I am unable to scan a CD using either drive, as I get "IO Error 87." A search for "IO Error 87" in support brings up several items, none of which pertain to this error. I've also attempted to search this forum, but the search ignores "IO" and "87"!

The detailed error shown in the scan CD screen is:
"CD Scan: Could not access the CD-Rom drive for advanced reading.
For better search results, please close any application accessing the CD."

But no other program is accessing the drives! Even after a reboot, I still get the same error.

I am able to use MediaMonkey, WMP11 and Easy CD-DA Extractor, all without incident.

Any ideas on how to get CD scanning to work?

TIA!

Mmm, tricky one.

Did you try this solution?
http://www.collectorz.com/music/faq.php?qid=64#faq64

Also, have you tried switching off the CDTEXT info source? Just as a test to see if that causes the problems.

Yes I did, Alwin. (I should have been more specific in my post!) Unfortunately it made no difference. I've unsuccessfully tried some other things, too:

* disabled Lightscribe service and rebooted
* disabled Nero BackItUp scheduler service and rebooted (Nero added this, though I don't own BackItUp and have selectively installed Nero 9 modules.)

The other strangeness is that although I have the Opticon OPN-2001 barcode scanner, I get the "Hot Key is already registered..." error when it's not connected and I attempt to scan a disc. (I read in the support FAQs that this error related to CueCat.) This of course, is no big deal unless it relates to my inability to scan CDs.

I haven't used Music Collector much lately, so right off I can't say if the problem exists on my old machine. I still have it hooked up by KVM and will do further testing.

Thanks for your response, Aylwin. Keep fingers crossed! :D

OK, I've also removed CorelIOMonitor, but still no difference.

Interestingly enough, I checked Music Collector 8.7.1 on my old machine, and I can scan CDs just fine. Further I *don't* get the hot key warning. On this machine, I've had several prior versions of Music Collector installed. OS and applications are identical, but of course the underlying hardware is different.

Further investigation of Music Collector 8.7.1 on my new machine shows that the CDs are actually getting scanned *after* the IO Error 87 box pops up!

Obviously MC871 is working, it's just generating errors. Any ideas why? I'd like to get rid of them if I possibly can.

Thx!

Just to be sure, but have you tried switching off the CDTEXT info source? Just as a test to see if that causes the problems.

Yes, I tried turning off the CD Text search. I still get the error. Too bad, I'd missed this item in your earlier post and was hoping this was the magic fix. :-(

It's very strange. I get no errors on my old system, just on the new. (Old system has PATA disc drives, new has SATA.)

Hi!

I have the same error since a long time. And it is nerving.
I thought it could be on switching from XP to Vista. But after installing XP too, the same problem. All other programs still works fine. Except MC.
By switching to Vista I have change hardware like twokatmew. So I think there is a incompatibility with MC and new hardware.?
A Music Collector without the function to collect CD makes any sense. Please fix it.
