Newsletter November 2009
Hi,
This is Alwin, with the November issue of the Collectorz.com newsletter.
I am sorry for disturbing you on a Saturday. But on week days, at the office,
there are simply too many things going on. This was the only way I could find
the time to sit down and write. So here I am on a Saturday afternoon, at home
on the couch, with my MacBook... (yes, I switched to the "dark side").
Anyway, before I explain what's making my week days so busy, let me tell you
about this year's Holiday Special:
** 2009 Holiday Special: 50% discount on all Pro editions **
This year we wanted to do something different. No barcode scanner promotions,
no special bundle offers for new customers, no gift-wrapped packs to give away.
Instead, we decided that it should be about the software itself (the core of
our business) and for you, our loyal customer.
So here it is, our 2009 Holiday Special (valid thru December 31 2009, 23:59):
* 50% discount on the Pro editions of all 7 programs, go Pro for only $24.95
Been a loyal Movie Collector user for years, but never got around to cataloging

This is your chance to bring order to the remaining chaos!

** Connect your collection of movies, books and soon... your video games**
So, what are all these projects that are going on at the Collectorz.com office?
Of course, Collectorz.com Connect is taking up most of our developers' time.
Sven and Robbert are working on the upcoming Game Collector Connect,
for cataloging and sharing your video game collection online.
Interested? Then sign up for the Game Collector Connect Preview Club
But a sizable part of their time is going to continuous improvements of the
Connect editions that are already out. In the past few weeks, we have released
important updates to both Movie and Book Collector Connect:
- You can now upload your own Cover Images to Connect, either one by one from
inside the Connect web-application or in batch, using the latest versions
of Movie and Book Collector for Windows and Mac OS X.
- You can now upload and edit your own Genres and Formats (and Publisher,
Nr of Pages and Subjects for books).
- Many improvements to the 2-way data synchronization process.
Why not give Connect a test drive yourself? Just sign up today and get 30 days
of usage for free, with full functionality and no obligations to buy.
- For Movie Collector Connect, sign up here:

** Other stuff we're working on **
But that's not all. Ronald is working on the upcoming major upgrade for
Music Collector, version 9. I can't disclose what's new yet, we're still
tweaking the feature set. But it's going to be a big one, that's for sure.
Dinh has completed all maintenance update for all 3 Mac product and all
version 1.1 updates for the iPhone apps. But we keep receiving great ideas
for these iPhone apps (and people keep buying them), so we started working
on the implementation of some of these ideas right away. These cool apps will
get better and better, and all updates are free too.
Didn't know we had iPhone apps too? Check em out here:

Martin and Rowdy have their hands full keeping up with your submissions for
our online media databases. The movie database in particular is growing
at an unbelievable rate. More movies, more barcode, more cover images...
In the meantime, our ideas for major upgrades of Movie Collector and
Book Collector are getting more solid. Can't wait to bring you v7 for both.
** Meet The Collector: Phil Spressart **
Meet Phil, loyal Collectorz.com customer since 1999 (10 years ago!),
owning 6 Collector programs and a laser barcode scanner.
Phil's story:
"I started seriously collecting when I turned 16. My parents gave me a Sony
Discman and I used an adapter to play it in my cassette player (Ha! Remember
that!). As a senior in high school, I worked at a pharmacy in a strip mall
that had a Coconuts Music Store and I used almost all of my earnings to buy
CDs. The rest of it went to discount VHS tapes. My parents wondered why I
bought CDs and VHS tapes when I should have been saving for college. Simply: I
didn't save for college. I stopped collecting when I went to school.
Well, as it turned out, college wasn't for me, and I went into the workforce. I
met friends who collected for the sheer joy of it and it was contagious. I
went to used music stores and used book stores looking for good music. My
parents, in the mean time, divorced and I asked them for their LPs. They gave
them to me. So I started my LP collection. Being in the pipe organ service
business, I ran across many organists getting rid of their LPs and I was more
than willing to take them off of their hands. About this time I got hooked on
comics, easy reading while on trips, and I dived in, head first. Of course,
always enjoying reading, I continued to collect books. Now that I'm married,
my wife and I love going to used book stores anywhere we can.
So here I am. I continue to add to my CD collection; everything from Aerosmith
to ZZ Top, John Adams to Vaughn Williams, with a little Muse and Afro Celt
Sound System thrown in. I've started collecting MP3s, too. My comic
collection is small, only 1100 books at the moment, but I collect what I like.
Our books number close to 1000; my interests range from Nautical Historical
Fiction and Arthurian Fantasy to early American history and current thrillers.
My wife has nearly 1000 children's books (she's the educated one...teaches
kindergarten). Finally, we often refer to our DVD collection as our own
'Blockbuster.' Again, not many movies over all (400 or so), but they're the
ones we love."
Phew, it ended up pretty long again. Hope you liked it. And don't forget
to take advantage of our 2009 Holiday Special before the year ends:
