New: Comic Collector Connect
The Collectorz.com comic database is where our program Comic Collector retrieves all its data and images from.Comic Collector Connect is the new home page of this online comic database. Next to the top 50 of most popular comic series, it now also shows live database statistics (#series, #comics, #submissions etc..) and a log of daily updates. Also check out our new heroine CC, at the top left.
A similar redesign of the other database homes will follow soon.
The Big Question: How do I add my own genres?
Some often returning questions in our support box: How do I add my own genres? How do I remove unused genres?Of course our programs offer you the flexibility of defining your own genre list. You can do this in the Edit Lists screen. Choose Tools | Edit Lists to get there and click the yellow folder icon to choose the Genre list.
Now you can use the Add Item button to add your own genres. You can also remove genres here, edit their names or merge duplicate entries.
While you are in the Edit Lists screen, you may want to look at some of the other lists (use the yellow folder button again). You can manage all the program's "pick lists" here, e.g. the Formats, Studios, Publishers, Platforms, Series, etc... and of course all people lists (Artists, Authors, Producers, Actors, etc...).
Pick Lists (or "lookup lists") are a very useful element of your database, because:
- They save you a lot of typing. Once a value has been entered in the list, you can just select it instead of re-typing it every time.
- The actual item name is stored in the database only once, so if you fix a typo in an actor's name, it automatically changes for all movies that refer to that actor entry. This also ensures that grouping and filtering work correctly.
Top Tip: Avoid buying duplicates: Export to your iPod
Recognize this? You return home with a nice set of new DVDs or games that you found in the bargain bin, only to find out that you already own some of em.If you own an iPod, then here's a good way to avoid the above: Export your list of CDs, DVDs, books, games or comics to your iPod's Notes section, so that you can take it with you to the store and check your collection right there on the spot.
You'll find this feature in File | Export to | iPod Notes (Pro edition only).
(You can also export a wish list by setting the 'In Collection Status' filter to 'Wanted' when exporting.)
Your favorite CDs, movies, games and comics
Music, Movie, Game and Comic Collector use our own online databases to retrieve details and cover art. It's fun to see what the most popular titles are. New releases enter these lists on high positions, usually in the top 10. We noticed that a lot of movie collectors use Movie Collector to keep track of future releases; Indiana Jones part 4 is still in pre-production but our statistics show a lot of hits already! These are the top three lists for the last four weeks:
