I finally finished cataloging my cd collection (1,993 in total - A-Z only). It has taken about 5 months off and on. Having a small break before I tackle the compilation CDs, there are hundreds of them, LOL.
One thing I did discover while adding the CDs is that there we have so many cds that we had double, triple and sometimes quadruple copies of the same album (we will be having a garage sale one day so we will be able to sell them then)
BTW I love this program, makes it so much easier to get the job done.

I bought Music Collector on 25th November 2003 (Customer No. 679) and feel that after having entered 2,703 CD's, that it is well past time to say thank you to Alwyn and all at Collectorz for their program (also Movie and Book) and for the enjoyment they have given me over the years.
Problems are sorted quickly and assistance is always forthcoming from other users through the forum. It is good to see that users who bought at around the same time as me (Old Geek, Geoff, Xenorose, etc) are still active and willing to help.

I just bought this program a couple of days ago and started using it officially last night. I've already discovered a way to make entering records with no barcode a little easier. Instead of using the manual enter function, use the automatic enter function and put in the title and artist then hit search. You still need to go in and change some fields like "format" and enter the personal data manually, but the rest is done for you provided it is found.

This program is fabulous!!!! It does everything I need and then some! I have not purchased a peice of software this good in years! I loaded it in Windows 7 and XP and it loaded and runs flawlessly. It's real easy to use as well, its mostly quite intutitive really. Just an occasional referal to the manual if your trying to do something a bit weird or what have you is all that's required. Again, fabulous program!!

Any CD on your database that doesn't have the cover artwork I'm able to get a copy from Google images 99% of the time.

Well, it took me three and a half years (I had a baby in between ;-)) But I did get my LP/CD collection catalogued. Fewer than I thought I had at just short of 2,500 and still a coupe, of 7" missing, but Im done. First pass.
Now to check some prices and get worried my insurance isnt enough....
As I took so long, I have had a good view over the development of music collector and I must say, over time the software has got easier to use. I have never regretted purchasing the pro version.

I'm a long time loyal user and tremendously enjoy using this program. Nothing comes close to it.
The motto for Keep It Compact (former name of Music Collector) was simplicity but I think that dedicated collectors as myself and the excellent development team have contributed to make it the high quality program that it is today.
Not too many software companies can claim to have the kind of close ties with its users that Collectorz.com has. It would be interesting to compare the feature list of the original Keep It Compact with the current incarnation of Music Collector.

I am yet another of your many very satisfied customers. I use Music, MP3, and Book Collector -- but Music Collector is the one I use daily.

Apart from the sheer professionalism of the program's design, I find the User Defined fields really useful. I have nearly 700 CDs, and I like to listen to each of them within a reasonable period.
(Otherwise, why keep them?)

To help me with this, I have renamed Album Text1 to "Last played", and Album Text2 to "Times played". Each time I play an album I record the date (e.g. 20090806) and increase "Times played" by one. That way, I can tell which CDs haven't been listened to for a long time by sorting them on the "Last played" column in Album View, and I can tell which ones I have played only once or twice since getting them with the filter "Times Played less than 3".

My family think I'm obsessive. Maybe I am. But it helps me to enjoy my collection!

I can't tell you how much I love this software. It does everything I need and much more.

I've always wanted to catalog all my CD's and tried to create my own database. However, I kept having to add fields and go back to edit every single CD. About 2 years ago, I gave up.

I've only cataloged about 150 in Music Collector, but, it's been a breeze. I know I've yet to discover all the ways it can manipulate the data, but, I'll get there.

I really like that it doesn't eat gobs of memory and there's no 'terminate-stay-ready' embedded in the software and sitting in my systray. (I hate those things.) Simple to use straight-forward software. I'm in heaven.

I believe this is going to save me a great deal of money, as I have a tendency to purchase duplicate CD's because I can't remember if I already own it. The online music retailers are going to be very unhappy and so will my friends, to whom I give all my duplicates.

Now, I can see the light at the end of the CD cataloging tunnel and it's not an oncoming train. I hope you get rich off of this; you deserve it for saving my CD collecting butt!

I'm just now getting to read your recent e-mail and am appalled at the messages sent to you by customers who, in coming upon a problem with one of your outstanding products, failed to address you with a more conciliatory question such as: "Can you suggest a probable cause as to why my copy, downloaded from your site, does not seem to work on my computer?"

Your response to each of them was quite diplomatic and I applaud you for being levelheaded in solving their problems. It never seems to amaze me that most people demand respect, but are short on being respectful.

However, if it will raise your morale and the morale of your colleagues a little more with regards to your products and services, I, as a satisfied customer, have not had any problem with the downloading of my "trial edition" of the Music Collector Software.

I have been working with the instructions given on how to get started and I am ecstatic over the results thus far. Moreover, I am anxiously awaiting now for the arrival of my scanner to begin cataloging my collection, which has been on my shelves and in boxes for years with no order.

Your product is a godsend and should be a must for all record and cd collectors, no exception. Finally, to quote a well-known phrase: "Build a better mouse trap, and the world will beat a path to your door."

I have to tell you what I think about Music Collector.

I looked for a program that I could understand and would not be time consuming to keep track of my hundreds of CDs. I looked at several and when I found yours had a free trial, I thought that is wonderful I could try it before buying it.

I was very pleased but I thought one thing would make it ideal,the ability to use my Cuecat scanner I got from RadioShack and had no use for until now. I checked the latest on your website and found to my delight it might be possible to use the Cuecat (it is the old type without a USB connection,it splices into the keyboard connection) so I plugged it in and tried it, The first try didn't work but the next one did-WOW!

I knew I had to pay for the license key to get unlimited use as I used up the free trial very soon!

I cannot thank you enough but I will tell my friends what a wonderful program you created and urge them to try it then buy it.

I first want to say your database for collectors (mainly CDs) is great! I have at the time of writing this 11,021 silver pressed factory CDs not including 99 cdrs of various colors that are band and/or band authorized issued. I add about 25-50 CDs monthly to my collection.

I have been using Music Collector to manage my cd collection now for about 3 years. I mainly listen to all genres of rock music from 1964 to present. I really enjoy Music Collector, it keeps my collection very well organized alphabetically by band name, title of cd, year released, label and number of tracks.

Without Music Collector I wouldn't know what to do with my collection. I love to add to the database when I find that rare CD that's not in the database, but thats pretty uncommon.

Your software has been a breathe of fresh air for me. I was an advocate user of Microsoft Access and Excel to manage my collection. A friend of mine turned me on to your site. One day (about a year ago) I finally downloaded a trial version and liked what I saw.

It took me about 32 hours to input all my CDs which was about 1900 at the time. Since then my collection has grown to just under 3750. Using a handheld scanner is a great way to input the information. What I really like is I can search for a particular song or Artist. It takes a little time to return the results but I know it's because of the size of my collection.

I will probably change my DVD collection over to use your software as well. I have about 1200 DVD movies.

I love the software. I decided to check out the music software and just purchased that from your site a couple of days ago. I haven't had a chance to start organizing our music collection but will as soon as I can wade through all our movies. If it works as well as the movie software... I shall be very pleased.

We purchase quite a few foreign disks of both movies and music so it is very, very nice that we can search foreign databases for the information on this portion of our collections. After many manual reformattings of the Sort Name for entries in the AL, I just now discovered what you've provided in the "down arrow Generate" button. What a nice feature! After I had already purchased my 8th duplicate CD, I decided it was high time to inventory my collection to prevent it from happening again.

I downloaded 5 or 6 other comparable software pieces, which were designed to do what your music collector does. Believe me, the competition's programs are junk in comparison to yours. I didn't have to load but two or three CDs into the other's demo programs to realize that I didn't need the frustration I was already experiencing at least another 800 times.

I loved your program from the beginning and I still do. It is designed well, and is very user friendly. I would recommend this program to anyone who needs to keep an accounting of their collection, for whatever reason.

It saves me so much time and stress because I can easily look up track listings in a matter of seconds. With several hundred CD's, it's impossible to memorize whats on all of them.

I also use music collector to allow patrons to view my collection on my computer, so no one has to touch my CDs.

I have been a registered MuC user from before it was even called Music Collector (it was called KIC Music at the time) and have had only pleasant surprises since then.

All of the questions and suggestions I have given in the past 6 years were used one way or the other to improve and enhance MuC. But more important most of the functionality I needed was added long before I even realized I needed it (most recent example: export to iPod).

What I find most surprising is that I am still using the lifetime license I bought in the KIC Music time (and when Muc became Muc standard and Muc Pro, this license was changed to Pro automatically).

I don't normally write messages like this but I just thought I had to let you know.

At last!!

I have been searching for an easy method of putting my CD collection (Classics and Theatre Musicals/Operas) onto my PC, but never quite finding what I wanted. Then, in today's Daily Telegraph, the very same question was posed, and a number of replies appeared. I tried your site first, and didn't need to bother looking at any others, as it was just what I wanted.

I have a CD rack on one wall, consisting of 48 sections, each capable of taking 15 jewel cases (which may be single or double holders!), so you can see I was facing a LONG job, without too much enthusiasm!

As soon as I have got everything onto the computer I can then return to my collection - something I have had on hold for a few years now, lest I end up with more than one copy of the same disc!!

Thanks again - it is now a job I am looking forward to, not a task any longer!!

I've used Davilex Easy Music for several years, but now I've upgraded my computer to Windows XP and found that Easy Music was not compatible. I purchased the successor, Davilex CD Beheer, for a few euro's, but I was shocked by the lack of functionality.

I downloaded a few shareware programs from Tucows and I immediately liked your program. As I have to enter 600 CD's, I really need the CDDB connection, and I like to have the flexibility in defining my own prints and export files (HTML).

I found your product by using a Google search on 'Music Collection', which was a refinement from my initial search on 'Catalogue CDs'. Your website was the first item returned, so I checked it out and was impressed. The Google search also returned comments from other users, all of which were complimentary.

I downloaded the demo and began to add some CDs. Again I was impressed. After 5 CDs added and a night 'to sleep on it' I decided to buy. Now my collection of over 400 CDs has a place to reside, electronically, without me having to type them all in. Also, music compilations can be tracked.

Congratulations on developing a product that is straightforward and applicable to a single item. Too many products / companies try to be too much to too many, your focus is appreciated.

I would just like to take this opportunity to let you know what a great product you have developed in "Music Collector". I'm approaching 5,000 CD's now and it has been a great help in organizing and keeping track of my collection.

I purchased the program in October 2001 and and have enjoyed compiling my list. For the most part the program has performed flawlessly. The size of my file is approaching 9.5 Mb, so I'm contemplating separating the collection into files for each genre so it will be a little more manageable. I have lots of classical and jazz as well as a good selection of lots of other types of music.

I've only added CD covers to the favourites from my collection as this is a bit time consuming and some covers for older (or deleted) releases are hard to find. I look forward to upcoming releases and updates to this great program.

For the past month or so I've been trialing almost every shareware on the web for music cataloging.

My collection consists of over 3,000 Classical CD's and well over 300 or 400 LD's, DVD's and VHS'. As you may well know, Classical Music is pretty troublesome to catalog. Yes, there is software out there specifically for Classical Music collectors but they just don't have or do what I wish.

Last night, I had almost made up my mind in going back to the terribly boring MS Excel which I've been using for this matter. Suddenly, in my AOL search, I find Music Collector. I have around 400 CD's and was keeping track of them in a database I had originally set up in Dbase IV under DOS years ago then later duplicated it under Access 97 and have been using it ever since. It was very time consuming keeping it updated.

When I purchased Audiograbber I liked the CDDB feature and thought there had to be a database program to catalogue CD's that also used CDDB so I started searching and evaluating various programs. I finally settled on Music Collector earlier this year using version 4.4.3. I reached the 25 limit and decided to buy it as it did everything I required and I was extremely impressed with your work.

Since that time I have also started collecting DVD's so when I had enough money to register decided to purchase Movie Collector at the same time. I did not even bother evaluating other DVD database programs, I bought it on the strength of Music Collector.

I purchased one of your early editions of Music Collector (in fact it had a different name). I have a large music collection and thought that I could never type in all the details - of course I was not keeping up to date with all the changes you have implemented into the program.

I could not believe how easy it was to scan a CD and download all details about the disc from the CDDB and then to be able to adjust some details that were not quite right quickly.

I have always wanted to have a true data base of all my discs - now I will. Thank you for a great program.

I tried various programs for cataloguing my CD collection (hovering around 1,300 at the moment), and nothing impressed me until I found Music Collector. It is very easy to use, the interface is attractive and the extensive reports that can be printed out in various formats make this program the best for my purposes.

I have a fair number of obscure classical CDs that don't exist in any on-line database (yet), but even then MC attempts to help out with as much info as it can clean from the discs. I have not had to use support, save for losing my registration key when I changed computers, but from the limited contact I have had with Alwin Hoogerdijk, I know that if/when the time comes, my questions/concerns will be dealt with quickly and efficiently and, most important of all, with a personal touch.

I have a collection of about 750 CDs and host a number of music quizzes each year. I have a lifelong, anally-retentive interest in which bass player is the cousin of so-and-so's keyboard player, and have always maintained a data-base (of sorts) of my music. As a teenager in the 70's I used a type-writer to detail track listings, personnel and the really boring bits that no-one else is interested in, such as recording studio, artwork etc.

I found details of your web site in our national Sunday newspaper, the Sunday Times. Someone equally anally-retentive wrote to the computer section enquiring as to how he could document his CDs. I kept the article and contacted you from that. Hope this info is of help.

Thanks for answering a 25 year old prayer. Your database is fantastic. I found that by saving the jpegs of CD covers from Amazon in the My Pictures file I can import them into my Cd database. This keeps getting better and better (but my wife and kids think I'm a bit obsessive)! Logging on to Collectorz is like going back to the mothership :)

I have just downloaded your music programme and I think it is AWESOME. I have been looking for something like this for some time but haven't found anything like it. I bought the Davilex Music Manager and found it cumbersome to use whereas yours is user friendly.

Just a short note to let you know that I think Music Collector is the most brilliant piece of software ever conceived & developed. Pretty heady compliment considering I regularly use programs for graphic design (Adobe, Quark etc.).

I currently have about 350 CD's, with more on the way. I used to keep a fairly up to date record of what I have in a book. However I let that lapse about 3 or 4 years ago. Since that time I have been 'meaning' to compile a catalogue of my CD's into my computer, but the thought of typing in all those entries... Well; let's just say I never got around to doing it.

Last week I finally motivated myself and did a search of the Tucows site (www.tucows.com) and came up with your software.

I was pretty skeptical at first. A lot of my music is pretty obscure - I currently have 4 CD's on order and they are all special back order. So I doubted that the CDDB would pick up very many of them. Well, so far I have catalogued 77 CD's and the data base hasn't missed a single one. I don't know how it works, but it sure works well!

Your software seems to have every possible entry available for adding & editing CD data. The only thing that worries me is that my CD ROM might wear out from opening & closing before I get finished. On the other hand; I just bought a new computer and the CD ROM is under warranty for 3 years - so who cares!!

Keep up the good work. And double the price of the software - it's worth it... Errr... That's double the price to all customers except me!

I just wanted to thank you guys for this app. I have been looking for about 2 years for something that would enable me to catalog my cd's.

I am a private party DJ and have around 800 cd's. Cataloging was going to be a nightmare no matter how I approached it. Spending the 25 bucks was the best investment my company has ever made. I had ALL my cd's cataloged within a week thanks to CDDB and this app. I was able to use it that weekend at a charity party I did.

The program helps tremendously with my search for that requested song that I just couldn't put my hands on. Now I don't have to say.. "yeah, I think I have that." My new response is, "let me check".

I am a presenter (announcer) at our local community FM radio station here in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia and I use your program to keep track of my private music collection and to submit reports about albums and tracks I have played. I find it most satisfactory for this purpose.

Your program is getting better all the time and I cannot sing its praises loud enough. I will most certainly recommend it to my fellow presenters.

Thought you might like to recieve feedback from a user.

I've been using Music Collector to keep track of my small (125 disc) CD collection in a jukebox. Works perfectly. Really appreciate the ability to produce reports in various sort orders, such as by index or alphabetically.

Amazed at the number of CD's in the library, especially some obscure ones such as 'Aangenaam Klassiek'. Yes, I am Dutch by origin, but moved to Canada about 27 years ago!

Everytime I get a new Update I wonder how more perfect your program can become, as it is already great. Then I discover all the new improvements you make.

The new Music Collector is no exception. It is really super, and I love the new view one has of the album covers.
