How to search your Collection

How to search your Collection

With a large collection, searching for a particular music can be tiresome. Fortunately Music Collector has excellent search options:

Incremental Search

If you know the exact name of the album, a good way to find its entry in your database is using Music Collector's "incremental search" feature. Easy, yet very effective.

  • First, make sure all albums are shown in the "list panel" on the right side of the screen. Tip: Choose: View > Folders > No Folder

  • Make sure the list is sorted by Title. Click on the header of the Title column to make it so.

  • Now, let's find your album: Click in the list once, then type the first few letters of the title. Notice that while you type, the selection bar instantly jumps to the first music that matches. In most cases, three letters are enough to find the album you're looking for.

Tip: The incremental search can be used with any field. Simply click the column header for the column you wish to search in, then start typing. e.g. If you click the 'Artist' column header then start typing, the Incremental Search will search the Artist column.

Quick Search

The quick search allows you to search your entire database. It searches all fields within your collection. You can search for artist names, or even random words. The results will be displayed in your Main List. Select a result from the main list and the Detail Template will highlight the search term.

To restore your entire list:

  • Clear the Quick search box and press Enter, or
  • Turn of the filter by click the blue funnel icon to the right of the Quick Search Box, or choose: Search > Filter On/Off
