Field Reference

In the Edit Album Screen you can add or edit album data. Not just main album and artist data, also personal data and cover images. You can open the Edit Album Screen by selecting the album and clicking Edit > Edit Album, or by double clicking the movie in your list.

On the various tabs (Main, Details / Personal, People, Covers, Notes and Links) you see a lot of data fields. But what exactly should you enter in the Title Sort data field? And what about the Cat. Number field? Let's explain these Field Names.

Most of the fields by the way have pre-set information. You can add and edit the fields in most of these lists with the Tools > Edit Lists option.

Main tab

Title
In the Title field you actually, well, just enter the name of the album :)

With the two icons at the top right of this field, you can set the Capitalization options for your entries.

Title Sort
Body of the album title. This relates to the sorting of your albums. For example with the album 'The Grand Wazoo', the title sort should be 'Grand'.

Subtitle
This field can be used to add a Subtitle like: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, or A Collection of Live Recordings.

Label
The name of the Record Label.

Cat. Number
This is the Catalogue Number. Like the barcode, this is a number that's linked to your CD and can be found on the spine of the cover.

UPC (Barcode)
The Barcode field is where the barcode of the CD is stored.

Format
The format of your album. CD, SACD, Vinyl, etc. You can add your own formats to the drop down list. To add / edit formats: go to Tools > Edit Lists

Genre
The Genre field. Add as many genres to your albums as you please. You can also add your own genres. Just type the name of your genre in the field below and hit the Add Genre button.

Packaging
Choose a from a couple of pre-defined packages using the drop down box. You can also add your own packaging formats. Add them here, or go to: Tools> Edit Lists.

Artist
The Artist field. You can add and edit Artists by using the different icons above the field.

Release Date
This is the Date when your edition of the album has been released. The Release Date of my copy of Hot Rats by Frank Zappa is 1994.

Original Release Date
The Date the album was originally released. The Original Release Date of Hots Rats was 10-10-1969

Composer
A field to add the name of the Classical Composer.

Composition
The name of the Composition. Used for specific names for Classical Compositions.

Conductor
Field for the name of the Conductor of a Classical Ensemble.

Orchestra
Name of the Orchestra.

Choir
Name of the Choir

Details / Personal Tab

Studio
The name of the studio where the album has been recorded. You can select multiple studios and/or add a Studio.

Sound
Sound format of the CD. Multiple selections are possible. You can also add your own format.

Extras
A list of Extras that might've come with the album. You can check (and/or add) items that came as an extra. Like a DVD or a T-Shirt.

Recording Date
When the album was recorded.

Rare
Check if Rare.

Tourname
If the album is a live recording, you can add the name of the tour here.

Live
Check if Live.

Extras
Select the Spars Code. Click here to learn more.

Country
Country where the album was released.

Owner
Most likely: you.

Location
You can specify the location where your physical CD or Record is stored, using this field.

Tags
You can assign Tags here to make it easier to search for a specific album.

Purchase Date
When you bought (or were presented with) the album.

Price
Original Purchase Price of the album.

Store
Store where the album was bought.

Condition
Mint, almost mint, used or scratched beyond repair.

Current Value
Current Value of your album.

Rating
Give your album up to 5 stars, in steps of half a point.

User Defined Fields
All those fields, not enough? Need more? Well you can have more with the user defined fields. Use the Album Text1 and Album Text2 for fields that have repeated values. The Album Lookup1 and Album Lookup2 can be used for any information you may want to enter there. If you don't like the names for these fields, go to: Tools > Field Names and change their names in the left column. Music Collector will remember the original name, might you forget.

People Tab

Musician and Credits
You can add additional Musicians and Credits, using these fields. Clicking on the People Icon with the green + sign.
Changing or Editing a Musician (or Credits) can be done by clicking the Arrow Icon (change) or the Pencil Icon (edit). And yes, the Red Cross Icon is for removing.

Covers Tab

On the Covers tab you can manage the cover attached to your album. You can add a Front and a Back Cover, clear the Cover and Update from or Submit to Collectorz.com.

Browse
Search for an image on your hard disk to add to your album.

Clear
Delete the current image.

Copy
Copy the image and paste it into any image editor (or word processor like MS Word or PowerPoint)

Acquire
If you have an image scanner, you can acquire the image by scanning the Front/Back Cover.

Edit
Opens your default image editor to edit the image. You can change the preferences under Settings on the same tab. Or by clicking: Tools > Options > Images tab

Settings
Open the Images Tab of the Options Screen. Here you can specify the folders of your Images, change your Image Editing program and set your Image scanner.

Update
When your album is linked to the Collectorz.com Music Database, clicking the Update Button will check if there are any updates on the album (cover, information).

Submit
By clicking the Submit Button, you can submit data to our Collectorz.com Music Database. Please read more about submitting by clicking here.

Write / Read File Tags
When you have added music files to your collection, you can read or write data tags with these buttons.

Clear Clz ID
Clearing the Clz ID unlinks your album from the Collectorz.com Music Database. This will NOT clear your images or any data that is added to the album. It only unlinks your album from the Collectorz.com Music Database. This could come in handy when your album for example has been linked to a different edition. You can relink by clicking the Update button.

Notes

On the Notes tab you can add pretty much all the text information you want. Like copy-paste a biography.

Links

An interesting tab. Here you can add links to website or other online information, as well as to files that are stored on your computer. Handy, indeed, if you want to add more images to an album, or when you want to add a link to an artist's homepage.
