Field Reference
In the Edit Movie Screen you can add or edit movie data. Not just main movie and DVD data, also personal data and cover images. You can open the Edit Movie Screen by selecting the movie and clicking on Edit | Edit Movie, or by double clicking the movie in your list.
On the various tabs (Movie, Cast & Crew, Episodes & Features, Edition, etc) you see a lot of data fields. But what exactly should you enter in the Title Sort data field? And what about the Edition field? Let's explain the Field Names.
Most of the fields by the way have pre-set information. You can edit almost all the lists of these fields with the Tools | Edit Lists option.
Movie tab
TitleIn the Title field you actually, well, just enter the name of the movie :)
Title Extension
Caption that is sometimes added to a title, for example 'The Director's Cut'.
Title Sort
Body of the movie title. This relates to sorting of movies. For example with the movie 'The Matrix', the title sort should be 'Matrix'. More about this in the topic about sorting.
Original Title
How many titles can you give a movie, right? Anyway this field is for foreign movies as they usually have a different title. You can put the original title there.
Genre
Tick the genre this movie is in. You can select as many as think is necessary!
Studio
Tick the studio that was involved creating this movie. You can use the buttons below to add it to your list of studios.
Movie Release Date
Not to be confused with "Release Date" this field is actually for when the movie hit the theaters!
Running Time
This is the length of the movie in minutes. You can change the display for this on your main screen through the Tools > Options menu.
Series
Some movies are chapters of a story. Think about 'Lord of the Rings' or 'Star Wars'. You can add those story titles there. This is very useful if you want to filter on series! You can also enter the name of a TV Series there.
Collection Status
A useful field! I myself use this a lot for my Wanted list. I add some movies with the Add Automatically screen, (I use the New Releases tab) and set them all to "Wanted". Using the export to iPhone option I can then easily see which movies I still have to buy when I'm in the store! Anyway, set the status accordingly.
Index
This is the number identifying the movie. The index value is automatically assigned when a movie is added to the database. It is an increasing numerical value. This can be useful for tracking physical movies.
Quantity
If you own more than one copy of this movie, simply up the quantity here.
IMDb Number and Rating
If you know the IMDb number you can enter it here. You can search the IMDb number on this site. When added, you can always use the "Go" button to go to the IMDb page of that movie to retrieve the latest IMDb rating, which you can then add back into the corresponding field.
Country and Language
Where did they mainly film this movie? What language is mainly spoken in this movie? All that can be entered in these fields.
Audience Rating
Should your kids watch this? This is the field for PG (Parental Guidance) etc.
Format
Select anything from the pre-included possibilities (VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, LaserDisc, etc). If you choose one that was already in the list, chances are the icon for this movie in your list will change too. If your format isn't there, you can add it using the buttons below this field.
Barcode
Usually found on the back of your item. If you have this information included, it's easier to update the movie automatically later, as the barcode is a unique identifier for your version of the movie.
Release Date
Not to be confused with the "Movie Release Date" you can use this field for when the version (VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray) you own was released.
Color
Choose if the movie is in black & white or in color. Does it have both? Simply choose color.
Cast & Crew tab

Add people here that helped create the movie. You can choose between director, producer, writer, cinematographer and musician. Need more? As you can see there are two user definable jobs. Rename these two with the "Tools | Field Names" option.
Episodes & Features tab
With this tab you can get very specific as to what is actually on the DVD or Blu-Ray, or even include information about each disc! So if you have some extras on disc 2, you can simply add a disc here, and just add the extras to disc 2! Use the disc button with the green plus to add a disc. Episodes, extras, anything is possible here.Episodes
Add episodes here, you can include the title, a plot for the episode, running time and a first air date. Add an episode by clicking the TV button with the green plus.

If you have a Storage Device connected, you can select it here, and find an available slot (or select one) with the field below.

Some standard features have been pre-added, so check off the ones you want to have there, or add some to the list with the buttons below. You can also use the free text field next to it (Extra Features).

This field is used for the type of packaging. A DVD is usually stored in a standard keep case, but a lot of DVDs are stored in a snap case. Pick wisely :) - Did you know Blu-rays are usually stored in an HD case?

Tape information
If you have recorded more movies on one tape, these fields can be quite useful: Use the tape label field for what label the tape has, the starting position for the start position of the movie you are currently editing in Movie Collector. The tape speed can be useful to know which speed the movie was recorded with.
User defined fields
All those fields, not enough? Need more? Well you can have more with the user defined fields. Use the User Lookup 1 and 2 for fields that have repeated values. That way you can look them up as if they're in a list of items you can choose. The User Text 1 and 2 can be used for any information you may want to enter there. If you don't like the names for these fields, change them under Tools | Field Names.
Tags
Tags can be useful to quickly look up movies that comply to the tags you've given them. Give your movie as many tags as you like. You can also group and sort on tags on your main screen.
