The search doesn't find my movie. Can I still add it?

First, have you tried searching by barcode?

If you search by barcode, our database server will automatically check multiple sources for information:

  • it's own database
  • Amazon.com
  • Amazon.ca
  • Amazon.co.uk
  • Amazon.fr
  • Amazon.de
  • HomeTheatherInfo.com's Region 1 DVD List

If searching by barcode doesn't (or if you simply don't have the barcode), then you can still add your movie using the Add Anyway button. This will use the Title you entered for searching to create a new movie in your database, which you can then fill in manually.

Tip: if you encounter a movie that is missing from our online database, please help us and your fellow Movie Collector users by adding it manually and then submitting it to us (use Edit / Submit to Collectorz.com).

I am not getting back covers for all my DVDs, why is that?

Our online database has many back covers, but not for every DVD edition ever released, sorry.

You may be able to find a back cover image that is similar to yours by previewing several editions in the search results. You can see which ones have back covers in the Cover column.

Tip: you can help us improve our database by scanning your own DVD covers (front and back) and submitting them to us (using Edit / Submit to Collectorz.com).

I have found my movie, but the Add button is not active?

Make sure to check the checkbox to the left of the wanted result. This will activate the Add button.

Why don't I get Audience Rating information for my DVDs?

Audience Rating will not be download if you search for a title of a movie and just add the title. This is because for each different country, there is a different rating - and sometimes even more than 1 rating for 1 movie in 1 country.

  • If a Dutch user is trying to get the movie "Gladiator" from our Online Movie Database, he wants to see "16 jaar en ouder" (16 years or older) as the Audience Rating.
  • If an American user is trying to get information for the same movie, he searches the same title, but he would then want to see "(R) Restricted".

Because they're both searching with just the word "Gladiator", we decided not to give any rating information on this level. But check this out:

  • If the Dutch user now searches the edition he owns by barcode, he will get the movie information including the Audience Rating: "16 jaar en ouder".
  • If the American user now searches the edition he owns by barcode, he will get the movie information including the Audience Rating: "(R) Restricted".

The key is searching our Online Movie Database for a particular version/edition of a movie. Try out the American barcode 667068720426 in the Add Movies Automatically screen (it will give you "Gladiator" with audience rating "R").

It is true that we don't have audience ratings for all versions of all movies in our database. Work is being done on our Online Movie Database on a daily basis, and new audience ratings for versions and editions of movies for all countries are added every day.

Can I add my VHS tapes using the Add Automatically screen?

Yes, you can.
But the Collectorz.com online movie database may not have your specific edition, or maybe no VHS edition at all.
In that case, you can still add the movie by selecting just the movie entry in the search results, which will at least give you the movie information like cast and crew, and a movie image.

Searching by barcode won't work very well for VHS tapes, because our database does not have many VHS barcodes.
