Changing the layout

You can customize the main screen of Movie Collector so it best suits your needs. You can add columns and arrange them in the order you want. But that's by far not all you can do with Movie Collector. Movie Collector has various built-in templates to change the look and feel of your movie collection. You can also change the layout of the main screen.

Changing the layout

To change the way your Main Screen looks:

  • Click: View > Screen Layout
  • Choose one of the options

The change is immediate and allows you to quickly change it back or choose another view. So, try out which view you like most and start customizing your movie collection!

TIP: Don't forget you can widen and narrow the different panes! Just click between them, hold you mouse button and drag.

Choosing a different template

Changing the template (the colors and appearance of your Movie Collector) is fun and easy. There's quite some choice (also immediate results), so take your time and choose your favorite.

  • Click: View > Details View Template and ... choose.
  • Done.

Although this is all very nice, but what if you want to go back to how it was? Don't panic! No need to look for the original settings.

Time saving tip of the day: To reset Movie Collector to it's default settings, click:
Tools > Maintenance > Reset to Defaults

More templates

If you want even more templates to choose from, check out the templates made by customers on our templates pages. Each of these templates come with detailed instructions on how to install them.

Note: Since we are not the creators of these templates, please contact the maker of the template if you have specific question about the template.

Creating your own template!

If you still can not find a template that suits you, in this vast quantity of Collectorz.com and Custom Made Templates, why not try to make your own?! How cool is that? Read more about creating your own templates here.

Screen Font

Use Ctrl+PLUS and Ctrl+MINUS to increase and decrease the main screen font size or click View > Font Size.

Go to: Tools > Options > Screen Font to choose a completely different font. Be careful not to choose Webdings or Windings (or a similar graphics font). It might look funny for a while, but it's pretty much useless. If it does happen (of course accidentally), click here to see how to change it back.

Screen Layout

How about changing the way your main screen looks and flows?
That's easy as pie...

  • In the menu, choose View > Screen Layout
  • Now choose one from the available layouts

The Full Height Details is a nice one, it gives you more space to view the detail of the selected movie.

The Full Height Tree layout works well for most people though, which is why that one is selected as the "default" view.

Oh, I almost forgot: you can resize the individual panels too, just drag the dividers that separate them.

Templates

Most users like to customize the look of the movie details in the lower right. Here's how you do it:

  • Right click the details panel and choose "Details View Template" from the popup-menu that appears. The menu will expand to show you the available layouts.
  • Choose a layout and another sub-menu appears with the available styles for that layout.
  • Now choose a style and the appearance of the movie details will change to your selected layout and style.

List Columns

Which columns are shown in the list is fully configurable. Just follow these steps:
  • Right click the column header of the list and choose Columns, then Choose Columns.
  • In the Column Field Selection screen, use the checkboxes to decide which fields to show as columns. Check the ones you want, uncheck the ones you don't want, it's as simple as that.
  • Change the order of the columns by dragging the field names up or down.
  • When you're done, click OK.
