Edit, Merge List Items
With every game you add to your collection, Game Collector stores common information in Lists. These lists come in most handy when add, or edit new games. A real time saver!
All common information, such as Year, Genre, Format, Location, Owner, etc., is stored in Lists that you can easily edit. You can add, edit, delete and merge these List Items. When you do, the results of your alterations are immediately visible in the drop down boxes Edit game screen.
Edit lists
In this example, we are going to edit the Owner List. This is a useful list, when your game collection contains games that belong to the different members of your family or group of friends.
- Click: Tools > Edit Lists
- Click the Yellow Folder and select: Personal > Owner List
- Click the Add Item Icon next to the yellow folder, add an Owner and click OK
- Add as many owners as necessary and close the Manage Lookup Lists Screen
-
The names you've added to the Owner List are now available from the drop down menu in the Edit game screen.
When you need to make changes to items in your list, just click the Edit Item button from the toolbar. You can also delete items from your lists, by clicking the, well, the delete button from the toolbar.
Note: you can not delete a list item that is in use. When you want to remove a list item, make sure it is not used anywhere, or merge it with another item (see Merging List Items)
Merging List Items
You can merge multiple List Items into one. For example, in the Owner List, you want to combine two owners (let's combine the owners Mom & Dad to one - and then rename the owner to: Parents)
- Click: Tools > Edit Lists
- Click the Yellow Folder and select: Personal > Owner List
- Select the Owners Mom & Dad (use CTRL+click to select)
- Right click on one of the items and select: Merge Selected To > Dad
- When prompted, click Yes.
Merge button
Clicking the Merge button in the toolbar, will also merge selected items into one item. Be cautious, however, because clicking it will NOT give you the choice to which item you want to merge the multiple items. It will merge to the item which is most often used in your collection.
