Adding Games Automatically

Adding Games Automatically

Open up the Add Automatically screen by clicking the left most button on your toolbar. With this screen you will unleash the power of Game Collector by quickly and efficiently adding games to your collection.

Searching by Platform and Title

A convenient way to find games in the Collectorz.com online game database. Just enter (part of) your game title, select the Platform from the Platform list, then hit Search Now. After that select the correct entry from the Search Results panel.

A few helpful tricks to be aware of...

  • Watch the Platform, Cover and Region columns, they will help you find the best result.
  • Double-click a result to preview its data in the Preview panel
  • Can't find a matching edition? Then you can still add the game by selecting the game entry itself or the Default US or EU Edition. This will give you a lot of game information and a cover image.
  • Can't find your game at all? (yes, this happens in rare cases) Then use the Add Anyway button to add the game anyway (with just your title and platform filled).
  • You can add multiple games in one go, by checking the checkboxes to the left of multiple results and then clicking Add Checked. Comes in handy when adding all your Mario or Guitar Hero games. Just enter "Mario" in the Title box, hit Search Now and check the ones you own.

Instant Info from the Barcode

Searching by barcode has several advantages...
  • It instantly returns only *one* result: the exact edition that you own.
  • This one result is automatically shown in the Preview Panel, no double-click needed.

The Queue Mode

Please note: This feature is only available in the PRO version of Game Collector.

Ready for some advanced stuff? Then let's try the Queue Mode, a way to do searching, selecting and adding in batch. Here's how to use it:
  1. Switch to Queue Mode using the Show Queue button on the right. The Search Queue will appear and the Search Now button will be automatically be replaced by an Add to Queue button.
  2. Now, enter a game title and click Add to Queue. See how it is added to the queue?
  3. Do the same with some more game titles.
  4. Once you have a couple of searches queued, hit the Search All button. Game Collector will now perform all title searches in one go.
  5. When its done, you can start selecting results. Just select the first search in the queue and its results will appear below. But there's one important difference with the Search Now mode: Here, you have to select results by clicking the checkbox to the left of the result you want. This tells the program to remember your selection for this search.
  6. Do the same for all entries in the queue, each time selecting one checkbox.
  7. When you're done checking boxes, hit the Add All button. Game Collector will now start downloading the details and images for all checked results. Everything will be added automatically for you!

Using the Queue Mode can be useful when you're on a slow dial-up connection, because it lets the program do the slow internet stuff in big batches. And while it's doing its thing, you can brew come more coffee, take a nap, play games ... whatever!

And it is essential when using one of our cool laser barcode scanners with built-in memory. These gadgets can automatically unload hundreds of barcodes into the queue, ready to be searched!
