Sorting your Collection
Every collector is different. In real life, you may not agree with how your fellow collectors sort their games on their shelves. If you ever want to sort all your games differently on your shelf it could take you quite some time.
However, with your collection stored digitally on your computer, sorting your list in a different way only requires a few clicks of the mouse button. You may even find ways to sort your database digitally, that aren't possible on your shelf :)
Click a Column Header!
The most basic way to sort your list is to click on the column header of the field that you want to sort on.For example, if you want to sort by Release Year, click on the header of the Release Year column in the list. Instantly your list will rearrange, oldest items at the top, the newest ones at the bottom. Want it the other way around? Just click the header again to reverse the order.

Want more, less or different columns in your list? Right-click a column header and select Columns > Choose Columns.
Sorting on multiple fields
The Collectorz.com programs even lets you sort on multiple fields, e.g. for Music Collector first by Artist, then within each Artist ordered by Release Date.
Please note:
With Game Collector PRO you can also save created field sets for quick access.
- Right-click one of the column headers of the list and choose Sort Order, then Choose Sort Fields.
- In the screen that opens, you can use checkboxes to choose which fields to sort on.
- Drag and drop to change the order of your sort fields.

Sorting by Title
If you tell the program to sort on the Title field, it actually uses the Title Sort field instead (if it is filled in). If the Title Sort field is not filled, the Title field itself is used. You can find and change the Title Sort field in the Edit screen. For instance, if the Title is "The Matrix", you can set the Title Sort field to "Matrix" to make it appear in the M's when sorting.
Tip: use the little Generate button above the Title Sort field to generate the Title Sort field automatically. Use Tools > Options > Title Sort to tweak the list of recognized articles.
Sorting by Artist, Author, Producer or any other "person" field
When sorting on a "person" field, the program automatically sorts on the person's "Sort Name" which is Last Name, First Name. By default, the program shows the Display Names in lists, while it sorts on the Sort Names. For the artist Douglas Adams for example, the program will use "Adams, Douglas" for sorting, making sure the item is sorted in the A range instead of the D range. This only works if the person's first and last name are filled in correctly. To change their name, click Tools > Edit Lists. Select which list you want to edit (e.g. the Artist List or Author List). Double click items to modify or fill in First and Last Names.
If you want, you can make the program show Sort Names in lists instead by checking the "Show Names as "Last Name, First Name" setting. This option is found in the menu Tools > Options.
Sorting on date added
The newest items in the database have the highest ID numbers. So just add the ID field to your columns using the menu View > Columns. Then click the header of the ID column in the main screen (list view). This will sort on the ID field and click it again to reversing the sorting to descending order.
Note: The ID field is not the same field as the index field.
