How to search your Collection

How to search your Collection

With a large collection, searching for a particular movie can be tiresome. Fortunately Game Collector has excellent search options:

Incremental Search

If you know the exact name of the movie, a good way to find its entry in your database is using Game Collector's "incremental search" feature. Easy, yet very effective.

  • First, make sure all movies are shown in the "list panel" on the right side of the screen. Tip: Choose: View > Folders > No Folders.
  • Make sure the list is sorted by Title. Click on the header of the Title column to make it so.
  • Now, let's find your game: Click in the list once, then type the first few letters of the title. Notice that while you type, the selection bar instantly jumps to the first game that matches. In most cases, three letters are enough to find the game you're looking for.

Quick Search

Even if you can't remember the title, the Quick Search tool will still help you find the game. It searches your entire database and gives you the games that contain the text you type, whether that text is in the Title, Platform or any other data, including publisher and developer.

Using Quick Search can't be simpler:
Just type search criteria in the Quick Search box on the toolbar and hit Enter.

See how the Game List on screen is reduced to just the games that match?
Now select any game to instantly discover why it matched: your search term will be highlighted in the game's details.

Finally, two ways to return to the full Game list:

  • Clear the Quick search box and press Enter, or
  • Turn of the filter by click the blue funnel icon to the right of the Quick Search Box, or choose: Search > Filter On/Off
