"It's been 6 months since this movie's come out, and I'm just seeing it for the first time, so I guess that tells you something as well.
I was never a die hard Superman comic collector and never bought the whole "Death of Superman" thing anyway. I do have a few key issues from the 40's and 50's but these were purchased strictly for speculation.
Anyway I came into this movie blind not having read a Superman comic in many years. I will admit I thought the animation was not what I cnsider the best, reminded me too much of Kim Possible, but I did enjoy the movie. Spoiler coming (I didn't think superman could bleed while on earth because of the yellow sun). I will admit it was a bit predictable but so are 90% of the movies I see in the theaters now. I took this movie at face value, didn't try to read anything into it and just accepted it for waht it was. An animated Superman movie that seemed to be going for the 15-17 yo audience.
The only real thing that was a stretch for me was the kryptonite gun. All throughout the movie the K was in lead except when you see the cartridge and it's green.
I guess it could have been leaded crystal but just my opinion.
I agree with Chris, I wouldn't pay full price either, $4.99 max for me. "
Chris Burnham on Superman: Doomsday, 04-10-2007
"I just finished re-reading the Death and Return of Superman Omnibus to prepare for this movie and the movie was quite a letdown from the original comic story. I knew the movie wouldn't be an exact retelling and I knew all the various Supermen wouldn't appear, but after they get past the death of Superman portion of the movie, it kind of falls apart for me. I won't reveal the spoilers of how they deal with his resurrection or the antagonist after Doomsday, but it was a huge disappointment for me. Additionally, the vocal cast are a group of excellent actors in their own right, but it was really difficult for me hearing them as these characters drawn in the Bruce Timm style of animation after years of hearing people like Tim Daly, Dana Delaney and Powers Boothe as Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor respectively. Overall, the movie wasn't a good launch for DC's new line of "faithful" adaptations of classic comic stories and I'm simply not excited or looking forward to any of the future movies in the series. I'll probably watch them eventually, but I'm definitely going to wait until they come out as part of a bargain line. No way I'm paying full price again."
