Plot

"Saturday Night Live: The Best of Eddie Murphy" is a compilation of topical skits comedian Eddie Murphy did during his stint on the show from 1980 to 1984. In a takeoff of the 1980s powerhouse news show "Nightline," Buckwheat (Murphy), of Little Rascals fame, is shot. The story, followed doggedly by Ted Koppel (Joe Piscopo), includes an interview with Buckwheat's former co-star, Alfalfa (Mary Gross) and a profile of Buckwheat’s assailant, John David Stutts (also played by Murphy). In another episode, "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood," a Mr. Rogers-like children's show host (Murphy) shows children what life is like in his inner-city neighborhood and "visits" President Reagan. In “Rock & Roll and Then Some,” a TV host (Piscopo) interviews saxophonist Clarence Walker (Murphy), who, 20 years after the Beatles shot to fame, claims to be the “fifth Beatle.” In additional skits, Murphy "stars" as Stevie Wonder, Little Richard Simmons, Gumby, Jesse Jackson, the Tooth Fairy, and others. The real Stevie Wonder and Ron Howard appear as themselves.
