Love and Other Disasters (2006)

"Love and Other Disasters" (2006) is a film about a young American woman, Emily “Jacks” Jackson (Brittany Murphy), who works for the British Vogue. She shares an apartment with her gay screenwriter friend Peter Simon (Matthew Rhys), drives a Mini Cooper and is apparently enjoying her fashionable, fast-paced, single life. But Jacks also lives in an emotional shell: afraid of being disappointed, she avoids serious relationships. She prefers to sleep with her former boyfriend, whom she does not love, and to play a match-maker for her friends. When a handsome young photographer Paolo Sarmiento (Santiago Cabrera) comes to work for the Vogue, Jacks is determined to bring him together with her gay room-mate. Engrossed in other people’s affairs, Jacks almost misses on her own chance to attain happiness, for there is someone who loves her.
