Plot

The movie Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008) begins with Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) on their way to Amsterdam to meet with Harold’s neighbor, Maria (Paula Garces). They board the plane after a small hassle with security and running into Kumar‘s ex-girlfriend Vanessa (Danneel Harris) and her fiancée Colton (Eric Winter), and are on their way to Amsterdam until Kumar pulls his new invention- the “smokeless bong” out in the airplane restroom. An old woman mistakes him for a terrorist with a bomb, and Harold and Kumar are retained by sky marshals and flown back to Washington. Ron Fox (Rob Corddry), the zany undersecretary of Homeland Security, interrogates them and sends them to Guantanamo Bay jail. The guards attempt to make Harold and Kumar give them oral sex, but they fight back and escape. Harold and Kumar then hitch a ride on a raft made out of wood planks and an old vehicle with Cuban illegal immigrants to Miami. The first place they go when they hit the Miami shore is to their college friends house. He lends them a yellow convertible Ford Mustang, which is not exactly conspicuous for two fugitives wanted by the Department of Homeland Security. They head towards Texas in a search for Colton, who they think will help them through his father. Secretly, Kumar wants to break up Colton and Vanessa’s wedding as well. After getting lost, wrecking their car, and encountering an angry mob, they hitch a ride with Neil Patrick Harris, who takes them into Texas despite him being drunk and high. Rather than going straight to Colton’s house, Neil Patrick Harris decides to go to a whorehouse. Harold complains to a prostitute about Kumar being selfish, and Kumar wonders why him and Vanessa broke up. They abruptly have to leave when Harris is chased out for branding a prostitute. Harold and Kumar arrive at Colton’s house the day before the wedding. Harold tells Colton what happened while Kumar helps Vanessa after she twists her ankle. Colton takes Harold and Kumar to the airport promising them that everything will be ok and he has taken care of everything. Little did they know Ron Fox and agents were waiting for them at the airport. On the plane, Harold and Kumar try to overtake the agents near them, but Fox corners them with a gun. Fox’s assistant then tries to overpower Fox, saying Harold and Kumar are innocent. Somehow the door gets open, and Harold, Kumar, and an agent are pulled into a freefall. Harold has the only parachute, and gets a hold of Kumar. They land on George W. Bush’s lawn in Texas, where they find out he is at to avoid going to the wedding. After the president smoking marijuana with Harold and Kumar, he pardons them and sends them to the wedding. They object during the vows, and Colton attacks Kumar. Harold levels Colton, and Kumar wins Vanessa’s affection back. Harold, Kumar, and Vanessa take a plane to Amsterdam, where Harold meets up with Maria, ending the movie.
