Don't Come Knocking (2005)

Howard Spence (Sam Shepard) is washed-up, has-been Western movie star who drowns what he sees as a selfish and failed like in alcohol, drugs, and women. In deep depression Howard figures that if he were to die, no one would care that he was gone. Then, Howard finds out he has an illegitimate child and this news gives him hope that perhaps he did contribute to the world in some positive way. He begins a journey to find his long-lost, illegitimate son or daughter and along the way discovers a whole new world, life, and outlook he had never known.
