Plot

Bunny Watson (Katharine Hepburn) heads the small staff in the research department at the Federal Broadcasting Network (a television network headquartered in New York City), handling questions as mundane as song lyrics and produce outputs from their library of research books. Bunny is also dealing with her seven year on again and off again relationship with executive Mike Cutler (Gig Young). As the holidays approach the network has a surprise for her and her staff as MIT efficiency expert Richard Sumner (Spencer Tracy) shows up to computerize their department. The ensuing conflict of human versus machine pits Bunny and her staff against Richard Sumner's computer, while in the background there is an evolving conflict between Mike Cutler and Richard Sumner for Bunny's affections. A computer error at the height of the Christmas party brings matters to a head.
