"This movie is a complete disappointment considering the first AVP. There is a great deal of blood and gore, however that is about it. The premise was set from the begining of the movie and from then on, exploding blood bags and very interesting death scenes, along with some new Predator toys.
The ending, while seeming to set up for #3, did not identify the faction that was involved behind the scenes. I certainly did not understand the last scene, but based on what was said, it appears that the next war will be in space. Wouldn't it be great if the Predator takes the fight to the original planet the eggs were found? Wouldn't it also be interesting to understand how such huge and very large aliens were defeated by the aliens in the first Alien movie?
Maybe it is time to hand over the franchise to Rob Zombie who has a knack for creating movies based more on the original text then directors imagination or interpretation of what the audience wants to see.
One thing that that all of us discussed was, what is the purpose for the Aliens? I mean all they do is implant an egg, explode from the chest (although in this movie, multiple eggs are laid at one time), and scamper off to grow into a big monster in what seems to be from scurrying baby to full grown in 20 minutes (sometimes shorter). Then the larger, adult monster goes around hunting its prey and kills them by shooting out its baby jaw, or takes you alive and puts you in a cocoon state in a room full of eggs, just to repeat the cycle over again. My question, along with many others, is "What is the purpose of these monsters?" They simply reproduce, kill, and continue to reproduce. Although, I think I saw one scene where one of the aliens shot his little jaw out a few times into the same skull. Was it feeding or simply making sure its prey was dead? Who knows? But in the six movies these aliens have been in, this is the first time I have ever seen an alien do something that could remotely be called feeding.
All in all, if blood and gore is what you like, then you will enjoy this film. There are some great scenes after all. However, if you are looking for substance and want to think about the scenes and movies you watch, then this is not for you. No thinking is necessary. It is all eye candy with some pretty fast action at times where you can't exactly tell what is going on, but these are few, short and far between.
