Rowdy on Saints Row 2 [Xbox 360], 24-10-2008
"Let me first confess that I was a bit disappointed when I first saw Saint Row 2's ingame graphics. Lately most of my quality time got spent on playing the brilliant Grand Theft Auto IV, so without even wanting to, I started comparing both games with each other. Lucky for me I quickly came to my senses and started looking at Saint Row 2 how it's meant to be: a great sandbox type of game in which the many possilities are endless.
Saints Row 2 isn't really great in the visual department, it feels like not much has changed when compared to the first game. It reminded me of The Godfather to be honest, and that game is nearly three years old! But that's really the only flaw I can think of.
Before you get started you have to design your character and that whole designing stuff took me almost an hour to complete: it's just so much fun! There are so many options to wade through. And if you're not satisfied with your finished character you can always visit the plastic surgeon ingame. I created and played with a psychotic looking overweight Santa Clause-looking dude for instance, but soon switched to a near perfect looking Joker look-a-like. Great stuff!
The storyline isn't particularly original, but it's the fast and frantic side missions that really stand out. On a whole it's difficult to get bored actually, because if you don't want to do missions you can always just cruise the enormous city by train, plain or automobile and cause mayhem. The possibilities are endless: jump basing, grabbing people and throwing them where ever you wanna throw them, setting people on fire, throwing sticky bombs on people, watching them run away in panic and detonate them whenever you want to. You know, the fun stuff!
There are also many ways to earn money. You can rob stores, participate in insurance fraud and let prostitutes do the work for you. The list goes on and on. And if you manage to get bored you can always check out the various multiplayer modes. They don't differ that much when compared to the first game but offer more than enough mindless Deathmatch-, and Team-based fun.
Conclusion? Saints Row 2 is a great game. It doesn't take itself serious and it has an enormous amount of gameplay to offer you. Highly recommend!"
