Rowdy on LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures [Xbox 360], 11-06-2008
"Indiana Jones is back and this time he brought...everyone!
Well, almost everyone as the game concentrates on the first three movies only. The events that take place in Indy's latest adventure - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - aren't included in LEGO Indiana Jones. But don't worry, you get to visit eighteen large levels. That's six levels based on the most familiar locations from every movie.
Each level begins with you controlling two, sometimes more, well-known movie characters: each equipped with one or more skills and it is up to you to make good use of them. Indy for example carries his trademark whip and with it he can hit enemies or simply leap across a gap. Female companions aren't as strong as their male counterparts. They can jump a lot higher instead, wich is extremely handy for those hard-to-reach platforms. Other playable characters often carry tools with them to repair stuff or to dig for hidden treasure. The aim of the game is, apart from following each movies storyline, to collect as much LEGO bricks as possible in order to unlock all sorts of nice little secrets.
If you've played this game's predecessor - the popular LEGO Star Wars games - then you are propably not going to be surprised here. When you first begin a new level you're only able to play in Story mode. Free mode comes available once you've accomplished this same level in Story mode. So once you've unlocked several other characters it is possible to revisit those levels and search for well-hidden treasure. It's really the same old gameplay all over again actually when compared with LEGO Star Wars.
While LEGO Indiana Jones certainly has its charms, I just couldn't get used to the boring gameplay. It certainly has nice visuals and audio, multiplayer is fun although wears off soon and there are several funny in-game moments but that's it really. This game is just merely a basic side scrolling platformer in 3-D disguise. If you've enjoyed LEGO Star Wars than this game is probably for you I think, just don't expect any ground-breaking next-generation stuff here."
