"I've been a fan of the Call of Duty series for quite some time now and I believe every follow-up in this series has surpassed its predecessor in every way.
However, as much as I enjoy playing Call of Duty: World at War, I think this fifth installment suffers from a few tiny annoying things. The thing that strook me was the bad A.I., combined with a few scripted events.
At one moment for example - early in the game when I played as a Russian Soldier - me and my platoon attacked a farm, located in the German countryside, where we had to storm and fight German troops. When the Germans were defeated, my fellow computer-controlled collegues were waiting for a scripted event to happen, but instead of joining them - and thus starting the scripted event - I went back to the battlefield and entered a small house I ignored the first time. Once inside I discovered German soldiers just standing there like nothing had happened. It seemed the many explosions and the screams of soldiers losing various limbs just passed them by. They only started acting the moment I started shooting at them. This wasn't the only situation this happens unfortunately.
Nevertheless, I think it's safe to say that if you've enjoyed the previous games, you're sure going to love this one. It has fluent controls, improved graphics and an improved and extended multiplaying experience to offer you. Heck, I think it even beats Modern Warfare's multiplayer-experience on every level.
Singleplayer is fun albeit short. Don't worry though. Just crank that difficulty up a little and you will be offered quite a resistance. Call of Duty World at War is not for the faint of heart by the way. Limbs and heads can be blown off, enemy survivors can be executed and some video footage can be a little to gruesome.
If you don't mind the little flaws and if you can look past by the fact that you're going back to WWII again you will discover a brutal, but fun and good WWII first person shooter. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed."
