Description

With the Wii Remote controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages. Players shake the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes. Best of all, there are numerous stages each offering multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or just improve their best times.

"At first glance Wario Land: Shake It! looks and sounds okay. You get treated on very nice and colourful visuals, along with some original gameplay ideas and puzzles that are not to difficult to overcome.

But play a while longer and you will soon experience that this 2D side scrolling platformer never reaches that height the Mario games DID reached. The backgrounds tend to get repetive quick and the movies that you get treated on after clearing a level are pretty annoying too. During these scenes not much variation in character movement is displayed and as a result it seems like you're watching a badly drawn Sunday morning cartoon.

Gameplay-wise it's better though, thanks to the clever level design and some innovative looking gameplay ideas. In order to make Wario do particular moves you have to constantly shake the Wii controller in different directions. While this is fun in the beginning it gets dreary very soon. And while I totally understand the reason why the developers used this gimmick, it simply didn't had an impact on me.

Don't get me wrong, Wario Land: Shake It! is a fun and challenging game, but in my opinion there are so much more better platformers available."
