Description

In multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. In the solo mode called "The Subspace Emissary," the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by an entity called the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures, called "The Primid." Normally, characters come alive in the world of Smash Bros. to do battle, then turn back into trophies when defeated. However, the Ancient Minister starts turning characters into trophies to harness their power, then detonates bombs that suck pieces of the world back into his realm of Subspace. Eventually, all the characters must work together to defeat the invading creatures from Subspace - this is accomplished by playing through side-scrolling levels.

  • This action-packed fighting game features a ridiculous number of characters that have appeared on Nintendo platforms, from Mario to Link to Pikachu ... to Solid Snake! As they square off in famous locales drawn from the rich history of Nintendo, literally anything can happen - and usually does. With limitless customizing options, items and weapons that boggle the mind and a wealth of modes, this game has truly infinite replayability.

  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl features a sprawling adventure mode called "The Subspace Emissary" that's a full game in and of itself. Players jump and brawl their way through enemy-packed side-scrolling levels, meeting up with other characters, watching incredible cinematics and taking on massive bosses.

  • For the first time, this celebrated series is going Wi-Fi, allowing up to four players to brawl, no matter where they may be.

"Six years has gone by since the last Smash Bros game came out and judging from this latest edition, Nintendo listened well to what the fans wanted.

This latest installment in the popular series has it all so it seems. For starters it looks absolutely great. It's all very colourful, shiny and sharp looking and it has some beautiful level design. I wouldn't be surprised if the visuals are some of the best yet seen on the Wii.

It plays fine too, with the most fun to be found in multiplayer. It's possible to fight against three other friends on the same screen. This is just plain and simple pure multiplayer fun! Trying to kick each other off the platforms is just a blast. There are tons of different modes to choose from and you can customize just about everything it seems, too much to discuss actually. And if this isn't enough, there are plenty of extra's to unlock like trophy's and stickers.

This all sounds great but even with the tremendous amount on offer it can occur that Super Smash Bros. Brawl becomes repetitive soon. I tried The Subspace Emissary for a while...two seconds maybe...and quickly started a multiplayer game again. I didn't like the auto-scrolling and wasn't too happy about the controls.

As a whole I found Super Smash Bros. Brawl fun for a while but the novelty of having all of these different cute characters battling each other soon weared off for me. Besides that, during the one-on-one fights I had some difficulties with the controls again. It occured a few times that they felt a bit imprecise, leading me to receive various unnecesssary and unwanted blows.

So if you're a fan of the series you can't go wrong I guess: it is the best fighter available for the Wii, it has great graphics, an enormous amount of modes and plenty of multiplayer madness to offer you.

While it's not my cup of tea, I'm objective enough to see that Super Smash Bros. Brawl oozes quality. "
