AJMouse on Super Paper Mario [Wii], 01-09-2007
"Woohoo, another Paper Mario game! Super Paper Mario takes the franchise to a whole new level with many new perspectives. I'm about half way, but I haven't gotten to completing it yet. The magic from the old Paper Mario games is back, and with the 3D level designs you are in for a treat.
The game works great with the Wii-mote, you hold it side-ways and play it as you would a side-scroller. If you point the Wii-mote at the screen, you can search the screen for clues. You get Pixl friends which help you change into flat Mario or throw bombs etc. I found the controls easy to understand, no problems there. The music is great too. As you've probably noticed I'm pretty wild about this game, yeah I love it.
I'm not your typical RPG player, but Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door was a great adventure if you ask me. I didn't mind the turn based jump stuff at all. Using items on foes.. no problem. Now, in Super Paper Mario, enemies still have points that you see flying out of them, hinting that bit of RPG.. but that's all. When you see an enemy you just jump on them or use an item or whatever. There is no separate stage for fighting your enemies as we had with TTYD. So if that RPG feeling was what stopped you from trying out Paper Mario on the cube, then you should have no problem getting it for the Wii now.. and let's face it, there aren't many games to keep you going for the summer, so this will be a fresh challenge for you. The game is pretty long too, and it does not get repetitive (well.. I'm about half way, and I still find the new levels intriguing and they feel original). Yeah sure you have to collect stuff for the end goal and such, but you meet new characters and you get more and more skills as you go.
So go get it while it's hot (outside), and game away. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. 8 out of 10. "
