Description

The follow-up to the #1 next-generation game, Call of Duty 3 delivers the intensity of being closer than ever to the fury of combat during the Normandy Breakout, the historic campaign that made the liberation of Paris possible and brought the Allies a step closer to Berlin. Through a seamless narrative that delivers the rush of unrelenting battle and breathtaking action, players assume the roles of four ordinary Allied soldiers—American, British, Canadian and Polish—and are thrust onto an authentic, living battlefield for an unprecedented variety of combat, with advanced high-definition graphics, detailed character animations and explosive on-screen action, delivering the most immersive and cinematically intense war experience ever.

  • The Power of Next-Gen – Built from the ground-up for next-gen consoles, Call of Duty 3 brings the battle to life with advanced graphics, a new physics engine, a procedural environment and detailed ensemble animations that deliver the most cinematic war experience ever.

  • Battle Actions – An all-new close-quarters battle mechanic allows players to fight hand-to-hand, improvise explosive devices, disarm traps and execute a host of other battlefield situations that require cunning and rapid reflexes to survive.

  • Branching Mission Paths – Next-generation level design provides multiple attack routes that let players decide how to confront the enemy – flank an opponent, or hit him head-on. Each unique mission path requires special tactics, from sniping and demolition to all-out head-on clashes.

  • Nowhere to Hide – Environmental physics allow players to destroy enemy soft cover hideouts, forcing foes out in the open. But be wary, opponents can eliminate your protective cover as well.

  • Team-based Multiplayer with Vehicles – Combined arms and team-based combat provides unprecedented depth and variety by allowing up to 24-players to battle it out online with the option of single or split-screen Internet play. Gamers have the choice to play as infantry or commandeer multiple-occupancy vehicles, including tanks, jeeps, and motorcycles with side-cars, leading to unique mobile combat roles for all-out, multiplayer mayhem. Call of Duty 3 also offers soldier classes, each with class specific abilities, and a ranking system for truly diversified squad combat.

"gota a wii on sunday and call of duty on sunday and i know what you mean about the lag situation. can get annoying at times. Ihave found that if you start to lag look at the floor for a second or 2 and it sorts itself out.

controls are hard to get used to but after a while you start to sniper those nazis like a pro.

overall a good game, graphics are better than i expected with the wii."

"I played this after Medal of Honor: Vanguard on the Wii, because I was getting good at pointing and shooting + moving and looking around with the Wii-mote and Nunchuck-controller.

COD3 is a much longer game than MOH:V and every mission (it really felt like that) is different from the previous. I’ve been playing for hours and hours to complete this and I did not get bored! My first impression from this game was that the graphics looked way better than MOH:V, but when I looked around on the web, everyone is saying that MOH:V’s graphics were better. Now I’m not sure, but the smoke and fire effects in COD3 are pretty sweet. I think it looked great, and the movies in between missions were pretty nice too (I’d imagine those are close to in-game graphics on high-def consoles).

Call of Duty 3 has a good story to tell with all the nationalities working together as one against the ‘Gerry’s’. It’s easy to reload your weapon (just flick up your nunchuck), and laying down or kneeling is done with the press of a button on the nunchuck. Works just fine (not 100 controls mapped to flicking the nunchuck thank-you-very-much). You can’t throw grenades with the nunchuck which I thought was too bad (I really liked that in Medal of Honor), instead throwing them is mapped to the directional control button on top of the Wii-mote. I found that to be a bad place, since my thumb doesn’t quickly go to that button.

When a grenade is thrown at you, you have the possibility to chuck it back at your enemy by holding the ‘-‘ button and throwing it back with the directional control button. When you pick up a grenade, you see how much time you have left to throw it, and when you don’t throw it in time, it explodes in your hand. When that happens, you don’t lose health – no – you simply die (as you would in real life). Nice one.

What I loved about this game was how I was able to do different stuff! Driving cars (steer by holding the nunchuck and wii-mote like a steering wheel!), tanks (driving and shooting), planting bombs (pushing the nunchuck forwards, twisting it till the fuse is tightly tucked into the bomb, and pulling it back) and whatnot. Of course there are also your regular mounted guns which you can fire. There is much more stuff to do, and this diversity adds a lot to this game.

Now at points (this is a known problem), the game lags. This happens when too many troops are on screen, and the lag can be so bad that you really can’t do anything to kill those Nazis and you will most likely die. What I did was face the wall so that the game wouldn’t have to calculate the NPCs and this worked most of the time. I would then lie down on the ground sniping the Nazis one by one. This is unacceptable. I heard that they swapped some games for better ones, so maybe you didn’t encounter this problem (you’re lucky). Still, I’m reviewing this game with a ‘bad’ copy, and the Wii being on-line and such, I would expect an update as you would get if this happened to a 360 game. This happens about 8 or 10 times in the game, and it’s really hard to get through it so you can advance.

Also, in the last mission this happened like 2 times to me. Not only that, but at one point it was so bad, that when I got out of the lag, the next waypoint didn’t show up, so I had no mission objectives, and the Germans kept on coming out of the bushes. I wasn’t able to continue which I only noticed after about 10 to 15 minutes of shooting with my squad. That’s pretty bad, it’s a bug and it shouldn’t be there. A bit more proper testing and this wouldn’t be happening.

I’m not going to kill the rating on this game purely based on these laggy buggy things, but will go lower because of it. I’m giving it a 7, and I’m saying this is a nice game to get, especially if you’re having doubts choosing between MOH:V and COD3. You probably get a good version as well. "
