AJMouse on Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception [PSP], 30-11-2006
"Since I finished some other games I had a more time free, which I started to spend on games I usually don't give alot of attention to. Skies of Deception is one of them. Appearantly it belongs to the Ace Combat series (of which I never heard until today), and that's after playing the game for about 4-6 hours. Needless to say, if you're not buying this 'cause you never played an Ace Combat game, it's okay, the story will still be interesting enough, and the game is just an arcade shooter.
Just an arcade shooter? Well... yeah, a jetfighter does not have 82 missiles and 12 'special' missiles with unlimited bullets. A jetfighter will not just have 20 percent damage with an impact of one missile from a hostile jetfigher. That is not a bad thing.
I completed the first mission with ease, shot down some planes with my auto locking and never really used the bullets, just the missiles. It took some time though, most missions are very long. It doesn't really matter cause you can just switch off your PSP when you have to change stations or run to another bus to transfer and switch it back on later (even the next week). There is a timer which doesn't really make sense cause usually you finish your missions way below that timer. Also okay. It's all just fun!
There are some cutscenes in between the missions (still anime style pictures with a voice-over) and after that you can pick your mission. Almost always you have to choose a mission... How are you going to proceed? Will you help your allied troops, or will you destroy an upcoming big threat first? I like it. The course of the game changes on how you play it. You can still play all the missions on the free mission mode.
So yeah I like this arcade shooter, but I'm not sure if there's a big audience for it. I like flying (thought it was the coolest thing in all GTA games) so maybe it's just that. I might even complete this one. 4 out of 5 because face it, it's not the best game EVAHH! ;) - but it's still a great game. heh."
