Plot: Doctor Doom has used the Summers Rebellion to recover Cortex, an example of his 'Doomlock' technology. This technology allowed Cortex to shape the present (80 years hence) by travelling back to the modern era and murdering the ancestors of mutants without creating alternate timelines. And now that he's recovered Cortex, Doom orders him to dispatch all of the mutants present.

But the mutants have an even larger problem. Anthony Falcone, the scientist who was behind the President's anti-mutant measures, has traced Cortex back to the mutant's headquarters in Atlantic City. And now he's sending a massive force of sentinels to wipe them out.

Eighty years in the future, Jamie and Layla have brought Dr. Doom back to Atlantic City in an effort to stop the 'Doomlock' technology he invented that's allowing Cortex to change the past. But Cyclops isn't happy to have even an ancient, half-senile Dr. Doom so close. Cortex has been eliminating mutants and former-mutants who were de-powered on M-Day. One of his current targets, Lenore Wilkinson, has sought the protection of X-Factor bringing her some measure of safety. But Cortex has psychically infiltrated M, who is one of Lenore's current bodyguards. Siryn is only barely able to figure it out and make it in time.

In the future, Madrox is meeting with a venerable Victor Von Doom. Though he has fallen far, he is still the foremost expert on the mechanics of time-travel, and he has the answers Jamie seeks.

Plot: The first mutant birth since M Day has occurred, and the X-Men are already behind in the race to secure the child. They don't even understand the significance, but the mutant-hating Purifiers and Sinister's Marauders have already both attempted to take control of the child. In an attempt to learn what's going on, Cyclops has asked Rictor, who has been powerless since M-Day, to infiltrate the Purifiers, while the rest of the X-Men attempt to track down the Acolytes, since they have traditionally close ties to the Marauders. But surprisingly, the Mutant Birth has given hope to the Mutant race. Forge reports that in his scans of time and space, he's determined two realities in which Mutants will not become extinct. To explore these possibilities, Madrox sends to duplicates in to scout when someone decides to hitch a ride.

He hasn't been back long before Rahne gets the scent of Buchanan's blood on Guido's hands, leading to a fight. The team discovers that Guido has been turned into a sleeper agent for Singularity Investigations with hypnosis. Since they can't get Buchanan's duplicate notes out of the bank without him, they devise a plan to clear Singularity out of their own building so they can try to find the originals.
