As Donald Blake listens to the townsfolk tell their tales, he and Thor come to a fateful decision regarding the other Asgardians trapped in mortal form. Thor fears that if Odin is freed, he would lead the gods only along the paths that they have already trod... and he feels that they deserve a new fate. But every moment a god remains trapped in a mortal shell is another moment that the essence of that god could be lost forever.

Plot: Heimdall informs Thor that many of their brethren seem to be vanishing without a trace somewhere in the desert between Nevada and New Mexico. Thor goes to investigate, and finds that the human hosts for Asgardian souls are being held prisoner by the Destroyer. Thor manages to win the battle, freeing the trapped Asgardian souls, which include Balder the Brave (depressed about failing to protect Asgard from Ragnarok, but otherwise relatively unchanged) and Loki (who now has a female form, thanks to his descent from Frost Giants rather than true Asgardians, and who claims that she'll behave as she no longer has reasons for mischief.) It is then revealed to the reader, but not to Thor, that Loki manipulated the return of herself and others Thor would not have restored with the aid of Dr. Doom.

Thor (Donald Blake)

Plot: Floating in the void of nonexistence, the son of Odin rests, having ended the cycle of Ragnarok to which the fate of the Asgardian gods was bound. But his rest is disturbed by one he thought had ceased to exist. Donald Blake, who himself knew the realm of nothingness very well when Odin parted him from Thor. Donald brings to Thor a new chance to return to Midgard, the mortal world... and the chance to learn whether the end of Ragnarok spelled the doom of the Asgardians, or whether they might still exist, hidden in the souls and imaginations of mortals. To live again, all Thor must do is fight.
