Plot: Several pages of the Book of Destiny have come undone from their binding, and formed a humanoid entity. June is captured by it, and finds herself observing the events depicted in those pages. The first was a team-up between the Metal Men and Robby Reed (of "Dial H For Hero.") They join forces and eventually defeat a giant robot whose only spoken word is "Megistus." The second is a team-up between the Blackhawk sqadron and the Boy Commandos, who are trying to prevent the Nazis from obtaining the Orb of Ra. They do this, but then a mummy captures Brooklyn of the Boy Commandos, with plans to use him to demonstrate to Megistus the power of the orb. He escapes, sealing the temple in the process. The third story June views depicts Hawkman and the new Atom fighting against the Warlock of Ys, who also seems to have some knowledge of or contact with Megistus. After realizing that most of the troubles the heroes are having with their equipment is simply feedback and not the Warlock's doing, the new Atom creates more extreme feedback, sending the Warlock through a page shaped portal, which brings the story right back to June, who is now viewing the Book of Destiny's depiction of her current difficulties.

The legion has the technology to separate Batman and Tharok, but time-travel is something that has thus far remained beyond their ability. It was the Haruspex, the probability-altering weapon that transported Batman to the 30th century. But does the Legion have time to find out why? Batman's presence in the future is having a dangerous affect on the fabric of time. The longer he stays in any one place, the greater the chances that a temporal rift will open, spillnig horrors from other eras into the Legions time. With Lobo's help, Supergirl has reached Rann, and made contact with Hal Jordan and Adam Strange. And when the Fatal Five are all transported back to their prison in the future, taking Batman with them, La Dama teels the Beetle that he has accomplished what the greatest criminals in the world couldn't... he killed Batman. Supergirl may have broken Lobo out of prison, but that's not enough payment for the Main Man. If he's going to take her to Rann, it's cash up front... same as for anybody. But when she finally manages to drag the Main Man out of a bar, they both find themselves in a very unexpected place... The Garden of Destiny, where they meet the person who was responsible for the Book of Destiny itself.
Alternative Plot: Batman and Tharok, merged into one being by the Haruspex, battle each other for dominance over the body they inhabit. Before Blue Beetle can do anything, Batman turns the Haruspex on himself and fires it, disappearing. In space, Supergirl still struggles to get Lobo to take her to Rann; when they eventually get under way, they are interrupted by Destiny of the Endless who brings them to his garden dimension. He tells them of the being unable to see certain men within the pages of his book and, realising these men could repair it, took steps for them to get it. The Lords of Luck, however, used their own agents to get the book. Destiny charges Supergirl with placing the book with the men who can repair the book but, unfortunately, without the book Destiny does not know who the men are.The pair finally arrive at Rann where they separate, Supergirl landing in the middle of a battle between the Rannians and Thanagarians.Batman, still merged with Tharok, wakes up back in the 31st century from where Tharok and the Fearsome Five had been rescued, only to be confronted by the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Alternative Plot: Green Lantern enlists the aid of Supergirl when he travels to Ventura on the trail of the Book of Destiny. The entire planet is a casino which enforces strict laws about devices that could alter the chances of winning, leaving Lantern reluctant to use his ring.On Earth, Batman teams up with Blue Beetle and are seemingly attacked by the aliens from issue 1.The holder of the Book, meanwhile, finds that it can re-write itself and he realises that not everything he reads in there will happen. Supergirl takes part in a fight that, on the face of things, she looks positive to lose, allowing Lantern to home in on the only person who knows she will win: the Book's holder. He uses his ring to track him down but is immediately attacked by the Venturan law who think he's using it to gamble. The holder of the Book is attacked and has the Book stolen by a spy for the planet Rann who had originally come to the planet to steal funds for the Rann-Thanagar war. Having heard what the book is, however, he wants it instead and Zeta Beams out, taking Lantern with him. Supergirl, meanwhile, is left stranded on Ventura.
