Plot: In the wake of General Lane's plot to turn the tide of public opinion on Earth even further against Kryptonians, General Zod lies in stasis from his wounds. As Kal-El returns to New Krypton bearing the corpse of Ral-Dar, the assassin who tried to murder Zod, the Council debates war with Earth. But emerging from stasis to address the council, Zod names Kal-El his temporary replacement.

Now tasked with the defense of New Krypton, Kal-El is uncomfortable with his new position. But when an operation to provide New Krypton with a moon by removing one from Jupiter comes under attack by Thanagarian forces, he faces his first crisis.

Plot: An assassin's bullet has struck down General Zod, causing a massive panic on New Krypton. With the head of the Military Guild down, it falls to his Commanders to govern the planet's defense. Ursa is paralyzed by her concern for the general, leaving it to Kal-El and Gor.

The assassin is apprehended, but after a brief interrogation an escape is orchestrated indicating outside help. Sensors are able to locate him, but he's not on New Krypton... Ral-Dar is headed straight for Earth. The last thing Earth needs is the Kryptonian military, prompting Kal-El o change clothes before pursuing him.

Plot: Kal-El rests in a Kryptonian jail, awaiting trial. As commander of Red Shard, he ordered his subordinates to take a Kryptonian criminal alive, and disobey Zod's direct order to execute him. But to the consternation of his legal council, he will do nothing less than speak the whole truth, confirming Zod's account of what happened.

His life rests on he case's outcome. But Kal-El has supporters of his own. Tyr-Van, a member of the Laborers Guild, arranges an opportunity for Kal-El to escape confinement and flee.

Plot: The presence of a new planet in Earth's system populated by nearly one hundred thousand Kryptonians has gotten the attention of the Guardians of Oa. The Green Lanterns of sector 2814 have been dispatched on a fact-finding mission to learn more about New Krypton, and Ion has been sent with them, in case the situation becomes hostile.

All goes smoothly, until both the Lanterns and Kal hear Zod order his second in command to execute escaped prisoner Val-Ty. Kal orders her to disregard the Generals order, and to bring him in alive. But crossing Zod isn't something that even Kal-El can do without risk.

Plot: Despite the idyllic appearance, New Krypton has it's faults. The Labor Guild, now infused by the same solar radiation as all other kryptonians, no longer require food or rest... so the other guilds expect them to work without cease. Having had more than enough with the situation, Tam-Or leads several other members of the Labor Guild, taking Alura hostage.

Commander Gor has already taken a group of laborers hostage, declaring that he will execute them unless Tam-Or surrenders immediately. In an attempt to defuse the stand-off, Kal uses the red-sun emitters on their weapons to depower himself in an attempt to negotiate. He prevails upon Zod to give him thirty minutes to resolve the situation peacefully. But his actions, while winning him respect with Zod and Alura, are making him enemies among the Military Guild.

Plot: Kal-El has been placed in New Krypton's Military Guild. Now, placed in command of the Red Shard Tactical Response unit, he helps to train New Krypton's soldiers in the use of their new powers. While this position helps him keep a closer eye on General Zod, it also means that Zod is keeping an eye on him, especially when Non is transferred to his unit.

In their first mission, attemting to stop a herd of rampaging beasts from destroying vital terraforming equipment, the performance of Kal's squad garners praise. But their next mission will test Kal-El. Some among the Labor Guild, seeking equality with the other Guilds of New Krypton have seized hostages. Kal believes in their grievance, but may have to take decisive action against them.

Plot: In order to keep a closer eye on Zod, and to try to work from within to help his people, Kal-El forsakes Earth to make a home for himself on New Krypton. But raised apart from this culture, there are things such as the Guild system that he doesn't agree with. And then there's the matter of Zod, one of his most powerful enemies now in charge of New Krypton's Military Guild. When he refuses to choose a Guild to join, Alura chooses one for him... and it's a choice Kal-El probably won't like.
