Plot: Kinsey Locke is just trying to fit in. Lovecraft Academy is a nice school, but Kinsey trying hard not to be seen or heard. Live one moment to the next, and the next, and the next. That's all. It's three months and three days since her father was killed by Sam Lesser, and Kinsey is still re-living it. Bode keeps trying to show his sister about the keys that opens doors to the ghost world, but Kinsey just thinks Bode is going weird on her. Kinsey is wearing a braclet from her father that is also called a "key." but doesn't suspect its anything but jewelry. Her high school gym coach seems to recognize it. Meanwhile, Sam Lesser takes the objects the woman in the well has given him, kills his guard and escapes. Police fear he may be heading for Lovecraft.

Plot: Tyler, Bode, and Kinsey, their sister, witness the violent death of their father Rendall, at the hands of a teenager he once counseled. Their mother is assaulted but survives. What's left of the tramatized family moves in with their father's brother, Duncan, who lives at Key House, an old family estate in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Bode goes exploring and finds a hidden key to an outside door. Stepping through the doorway, Bode becomes a ghost.
Now in prison, the Sam Lesser, the killer, sees an image of a woman's face talk to him from the toilet in his cell, promising him he will soon escape.
