Have you noticed there are a lot of cool game demos ready for download recently? Resident Evil 5, Halo Wars and Tom Clancy’s HAWX for example. All waiting just to be checked out. I tried out Tom Clancy’s HAWX, here’s is what I think of it.
While I’m a big fan of the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Rainbow Six Vegas series, I grew tired of playing Tom Clancy’s EndWar quicker as expected to be honest. Not because Tom Clancy’s EndWar wasn’t any good. On the contrary: just like every other Tom Clancy game this game combined great graphics with intense playability and long lastability. No, I guess it’s the simple fact I prefer First Person Shooters over Real Time Strategy games. Check out this link if you’re interested in the review.
So needless to say I had high hopes for Tom Clancy’s HAWX.
The story begins in the year 2012 and this demo level sees you cooperating with ground forces in - or should I say above - Rio de Janeiro. Whenever those Ghost Recon guys are in trouble they call out to you for helping them out by attacking and destroying various ground based enemies for example. The Tom Clancy universe expands even more with this game and it’s particularly satisfying being able to interact with persons from these other series. It really feels you are part of a bigger picture here.
Great Graphics
One of the first things I noticed when trying out the demo was just how absolutely stunning the visuals are. Bright, sharp and most of all very realistic looking. Cities look very detailed when you’re flying miles high above them, although it has to be mentioned that when you’re flying slightly above ground some parts look a bit flattened. Even a bit two-dimensional maybe. But hey, considering you’ll be doing your work high in the air for most of the time flaws like this don’t have to weigh that much.

Controlling Your Aircraft
Controlling your aircraft feels very tight and fluent and flying your plane isn’t as difficult as I had expected. Thanks to a fun and lengthy tutorial you’ll be up and flying around in a matter of minutes. Views can be changed to 1st Person, 3rd Person or Cockpit View by clicking the Right Stick. You brake your plane by pressing the Left Trigger, while pressing the Right Trigger sees your plane accelerate. Strafing can be done by pushing either the Left-, or Right Shoulder button. Pretty basic stuff altogether.
One of the best things about HAWX is the implentation of the Enhanced Reality System ( ERS). When activated, this feature helps to assist you in taking take full control of the many actions you have to take in mind while flying and controlling a state-of-the-art airplane. Like incoming missile detection, damage control system, use of the tactical map, weapons trajectory control to name but a few. The ERS is a great feature to slowly get more acquainted in mastering your aircraft and this feature simply shows a great deal of attention has been given to to the game by its developers.

Go Check It Out…NOW!
All in all I enjoyed playing this demo and although I’m not that much into Arcade Flight Sims I look forward in playing HAWX when it’s released. Go check out the demo if you haven’t already.
