And The Razzie 2009 Nominees Are…

razzie.jpgJust one more month of waiting untill the Oscars are being handed out. Probably the biggest question out there is whether or not Heath Ledger receives a posthumous Oscar nomination.

I hope Heath Ledger does receive a nomination, but on the other hand I think it’s a bit of a hypocrisy should he actually win an Oscar. Don’t get me wrong, I loved his performance as The Joker but I never considered it to be Oscar worthy material. Instead The Academy should’ve given him one for his gripping performance in Brokeback Mountain.

So, the 81st Academy Awards nominations are going to be announced today but did you know that the nominations for the Razzie Awards were announced yesterday? Click here to see the whole list. I watched quite a few movies recently and coincidently some of them are on the nominations list.

Normally I can find myself in the nominations, but not this time. Nominated amongst others are The Happening (nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay), The Eye (Jessica Alba nominated for Worst Actress), What Happens In Vegas (Cameron Diaz nominated for Worst Actress and Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher for Worst Screen Couple), My Best Friend’s Girl (Kate Hudson for Worst Actress) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (nominated for Worst Sequel)…what a load of bull!

I for one enjoyed The Happening and I also thought The Eye was an okay J-Horror remake that succesfully delivered a few scares. Further I really, really enjoyed the mean and below-the-belt humour of What Happens In Vegas and My Best Friend’s Girl. But maybe my judgement is a bit biased because the latter two movies starred two brilliant comedians in my opinion. Rob Gorddry stole every scene he was in as Hater in What Happens In Vegas, while Dane Cook was truly in great form as a socially deteriorated a-hole in My Best Friend’s Girl. Two of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year…no pun intented.

Oh, and no matter what movie script George Lucas came up with, it never could live up to the absurd mile-high expectations people had. Nominating Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for worst sequel is just too sad.
