Nova

nova.JPGI got myself the first TPB of the newest Nova run. Marvel Comics did a great job with this new series. If you like really great sci-fi stories full of action, you really need to check out this series, or the TPBs. Let’s talk about this TPB first. It’s called Annihilation Conquest and collects the first 7 issues of the newest Nova run.

The Story: Nova (the human-being Richard Rider) survives the Annihilation Wave: a massive slaughter in outer space set up by bad guy Annihilus. Loads of creatures died. Aliens, Kree, whatever is living in the Marvel-616 universe: millions died. Including the universe protectors called ‘Nova Corps’, with the exception of Richard Rider, the human Nova. So, right now, he’s all alone. Flying around, saving the good and smacking the bad and ugly. But he can’t do the job, he can’t help the universe alone. He needs food and sleep: he’s still a human being. But with great powers. He is also linked to the entity Worldmind. A computer who controls the Nova Force. Together, although you can only see Nova - Worldmind is just talking inside Nova’s head, they visit earth. Nova visits his parents plus he finds out Tony Starks is busy with the superhuman registration. Yes, Nova visits earth while the Civil War is on fire… Nova tells Tony to think in perspective: while Nova was saving the universe, on earth it’s just about tiny details. After meeting some of his old friends and a fight with the Thunderbolts, Nova leaves earth: ready to save the universe again - his home - planet earth - is too weird for him. But this is just the start…

Back in space Nova receives a lot of incoming ‘help-calls’ from the Kree empire. He replies and is already on his way to the Kree, who were his friends during the Annihilation Wave. But when he arrives, the supercomputer Worldmind tells Nova to leave immedialty. The whole area is surrounded and infected by the techno-organic creatures Phalanx. We meet of bunch of other new and well-known Marvel characters and eventually both Nova and Worldmindare infected by the Phalanx. At one moment Nova can escape the Phalanx infection. Worldminder needs over 80% of the Nova Force to keep the Phalanx infection in control, so all Nova can do is fly away. Nova: alone in the universe, infected by the Phalanx, just a small fraction of his original powers and with villains Drax and Gamora on his back… That’s how this book ends and TPB 2 is already published. I really need that second TPB right now! This is good stuff.
