For the last few weeks I’ve been busy processing many of your great submissions, as well as cleaning up our game database. Cleaning up the online game database is actually just like digging for treasure really. There is such an enormous amount of useful and interesting game data available!
But what I enjoy most are the game covers. Some truly amazing video game box art is to be found in the sacred chambers of Collectorz.com. So, without any further ado, I’m pleased to share a few of my personal favorites with you.
Let’s start with Brataccas, Psygnosis’ side scrolling sci-fi action adventure that was released for several consoles, including the Amiga. It was released by Pysgnosis way back in 1986 and while the game was troubled by poor controls, it is a cult favorite amongst fans these days.

English artist Roger Dean is the one responsible for this romantic piece of sci-fi art. We see Kyne - the game’s main protagonist - after he left Earth and landed on the asteroid of Brataccas. It perfectly captures the feeling of entering an unknown and hostile environment in my opinion.
Next in line is Matrix Marauders, developed by Psyclapse and released in 1990. This shooter was badly received but it more than makes up in the box art department! Check it out.

Very nice box art work by artist Peter Andrew Jones
Another classic is the box cover work for Castlevania, released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

We can see Conan the Barbarian look-a-like Simon Belmont at the beginning of a dangerous journey. His mission? To reach Count Dracula’s home Castlevania and defeat the evil Prince of Darkness! Whole story packed in a single image. Amazing.
I’ve never played Dawn of Magic, but judging by the cover I think it’s a great game…

I probably wouldn’t survive it but damn, would I like to go out on a date with these chillingly hot ladies
The box cover for the 1982 Atari 2600 game Reactor is the final masterpiece I have left to show you. You control a space ship and it is your duty to stop a nuclear reactor from melting down. The image on the cover shows you what you can expect when you fail…

Ka-Booooom!!
Hahaha, brilliant cover!
These are just a few video game covers I think are excellent, yet there are many more to be found. Next week I’m gonna take a look at some of the worst video game covers ever made. Looking forward to it, actually!
Have a nice weekend.
