Gears of War 2
Some new screenshots/artwork popped up yesterday, so I thought it was time for a small update on the new Gears of War game that is coming out in November. Check it out!

There was a teaser movie in February, but now we have some screens and scans too. Although they don’t reveal much, it’s still fun to check them out. That teaser really doesn’t show anything though hehe.

Cole and Baird will still play a role in the new Gears of War, but as you can see we have 4 characters joining the cast. First we have Tai, who is a spiritual and meditative warrior. He will most likely bring some mystique to the whole story. Prescott is a military leader who stands above Hoffman (your commander from the original Gears of War). Dizzy is someone from a rescued family who has the skills to join the fight against the Locust Horde. Last we have Maria, Dom’s wife who is lost. You make it your personal quest to find her in Gears of War 2.

Jacinto: the last safe haven for humanity

The story starts half a year after the blast that killed many Locusts at the end of Gears 1. Although this COG-victory has set back the Locusts quite a bit, the Locust Horde have developed a new weapon that can sink a whole city. One by one human cities are sinking, and it seems that the once rich subsection (Jacinto) of a bigger city is the last safe place for humans. It’s build on a hard bedrock, so the Locust have a hard time going underneath it. With a big wall around it, it’s a fairly safe place. But the Locust Horde is closing in, so you need to take the fight out there. Or… under there.

There will be some new weapons including the Gorgon Burst Pistol, the Hammer Burst and the Poison Grenade (which has a handy sling like the grenade from Gears 1):

The levels will be open and with many possible solutions on how to tackle it and attack the Locusts.

Kantus

The Locust Kantus will be a new enemy among the Locust Horde. They are monk like monsters and they’re chanting low noises which can damage you. They hold the Gorgon Burst Pistol and Poison grenades. The biggest danger of these new creatures is that they can revive they’re fellow Locusts (all of them I think) from a distance. So now you have to keep looking behind you even if you have killed an enemy. Pff. Your best option here is probably to run through the group of Locusts guns ablaze, killing the Kantus who is standing all the way in the back. Shouldn’t be too hard right? You can hide behind the humongous Locust rock worms that are moving through the caverns while running to the back by the way

RAMPAGE, GODLIKE eh which is a different game by the way.

They’re trying to put in more of a story this time (even though there was some story in Gears 1, this time it will be much deeper). For this they’ve hired Joshua Ortega, a novelist and comic writer (Spider-Man Unlimited #8). I think it’s great they’re trying to make a greater story. I can’t wait!

A snowy mountain, totally not in the style of the first GoW if you ask me, but looking pretty cool

This could be a shot of the same city as the first pic, as there is snow on the ground here as well, the lampposts look different here though, and we see some trees up on the hill there. But that’s all possible if it’s the hill on the other side of the town. Doesn’t look like Jacinto though.

And then Dizzy. My guess would be this is his hometown, and maybe you pick him up here to join you in the fight against the Locust Horde.

Not final but… at least we have a placeholder now for Game Collector Connect: Gears of War 2
