What you apparently ‘liked’…
I would definitely not go out there and call this list the list of the most popular movies of 2007. So most requested movies in our DB seems a lot better to me. I’m sure you agree if you see that there’s only one 2007 movie in there!
10. The Da Vinci Code
9. Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
8. The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King
7. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers
6. Batman Begins
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
4. 300
3. The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
2. The Departed
1. Casino Royale
The top 10 of most requested movies in 2007. What can I say. The Lord of the Rings will always be popular and in these lists. The Lord of the Rings movies are usually the first movies a new user enters. The same goes for Pirates of the Caribbean (it won’t be long until ‘At World’s End‘ will be in this list, and I would imagine it’s not far behind as we speak).
There’s only one movie from 2007 in this list, and it’s ‘300‘. I also enjoyed this movie. I can say I enjoyed every single movie from this list by the way. I didn’t enjoy ‘Casino Royale‘ as much, in fact, I would definitely not put it up higher than the last place. But with all the free blu-ray versions of ‘Casino Royale‘ shipped with every single Playstation 3, what can you do. And it wasn’t a bad movie, I just wouldn’t think it would score higher than ‘300‘.
So much for that list. Why aren’t your favorite movies in there? You know, the ones from 2007! Well, that’s because maybe the DVD version of that hasn’t been out there that long (or even released). So I looked up just a few movies from 2007 that I liked (because putting all movies that I liked here would be creating a huge list), and none of them are in the top 10. And all of them I thought were better than the only 2007 movie (’300‘) from our list. In no particular order:

Hot Fuzz
Simon Pegg is great in this flick! I love the British humor and with a nice story to go along with this action packed comedy this is definitely one 2007 movie that should be in any top list.

Superbad
Sitting down with friends, having a drink, this was a super-comedy. I don’t think we’ve laughed this hard since ‘Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy‘.

Bridge to Terabithia
Well I had never read the book, and I didn’t even know about this story until I saw the movie. Great cinematography, great acting, good movie from Disney.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I usually think every new Harry Potter is better than the last one and… it’s the same thing with this one! I got to see it in Imax 3D which was really great (the last fight scene is completely in 3D). Can’t wait for the next movie, again.
Transformers
Come on.. who didn’t like this?

American Gangster
I don’t have much on this one. Good acting, good story. Told you I didn’t have much.

The Simpsons Movie
While I did not expect much at first from this movie as the series were going down for me (there wasn’t one single episode from this season’s Simpsons that I really enjoyed), it was actually a very funny movie! It really felt like a classic good funny Simpsons episode.
The Bourne Ultimatum
No, I did not enjoy this one. But I won’t get into it because Mark will kill me then.
Like I said, there are many more movies from 2007 that I enjoyed, and these are just a few that popped straight into my head when I think of 2007. It was a good year, but 2008 will be pretty awesome too. Starting with National Treasure: Book of Secrets (mmm for you U.S. guys, National Treasure 2 has actually been released in 2007, but here it’s 2008!) and Cloverfield, I don’t see many things going wrong anytime soon. By the way, in last weeks’ theater update you can find some more information on Cloverfield if you like (scroll down a bit).
Did you enjoy 2007?
