NEW: Comic Collector 5 for Windows

On February 15, 2011, we released Comic Collector 5.
It introduced adding comics by barcode and much more (Find Cover Online, Collection Stats, Wish List features, etc..).

But we didn't stop there. In the meantime, we have released version 5.1 which adds Backdrops, Publisher logos and the super-cool Cover Flow view.

Upgrading to version 5
You can upgrade any old Comic Collector version to the new version 5 PRO for only US $24.95. Yes, that's right, we will always give you the PRO edition, even if you own a Standard one now. Just enter your current license key in the box on the right and click the "Upgrade Now" button.

New: Backdrops (= background images) for the Details Panel (new in v5.1)

• New Backdrop style for the Comic Collector Vee Five template, that uses the selected Backdrop as the background for the Details Panel.
• Series-level Backdrops are now automatically provided by our online database.
  (use the Search Settings screen to switch backdrop downloading On/Off)
• When Preview Art is available, it is automatically use as the Backdrop.
  (this is optional, use Tools / Settings to switch on/off)
• Set your own series-level Backdrop in Edit Series / Backdrop.
• Set your own issue-level Backdrop in Edit Comic / Images / Backdrop.

New: Cover Flow view (new in v5.1)

• The Cover Flow is a 3rd viewing option, next to List and Images.
• Browse through your comics by cover image, in a cool looking 3D image browser.

New: Customizable images for all pick list items (new in v5.1)

• Set your own image for any list item, e.g. for Publishers, Imprints, Series..
  • Set a 16x16 image that will appear in the tree and list on main screen.
  • Set a larger template image for use in Details View templates.
• Comic Collector now comes with included pick list item images, for:
  • 15 popular Publishers (large logos for Details Panel, plus list/tree icons)
  • 4 popular Imprints (logos for Details Panel)

New: Add comics by barcode (currently for american comics only)

• Add comics to your personal database by barcode, either by typing the barcode manually or by using a barcode scanner.
• Support for all 3 "Collectorz.com scanners" (CueCat, C37 and OPN-2001) and any HID / keyboard emulating scanners.
• Searching by barcode will immediately and automatically give you the exact issue and variant that you own.
• Type or scan multiple barcodes into the Search Queue, then search all at once.
• ISBN field in Edit Comics has now been renamed to the more generic "barcode".
• Downloaded entries now automatically have the barcode field filled in.

IMPORTANT: Because of our partnership with Diamond, our online database provides great coverage for *American* comics and trade paperbacks. However, even though our barcode lookup system fully supports barcodes and ISBNs for *European* comic books and even though we have *some* European barcodes, we can NOT guarantee any level of coverage for European comic books.

Improved Design of Add Comics Automatically screen

• The Series Results and Issue List panels have been merged into a new "Series/Issues" tree-structure.
• Scroll through Series results, then expand Series entries to see their issues.
• Use issue checkboxes to select issues or click the series checkbox to select all isues in a series.
• Add issues from multiple series in one go.
• New Search by Barcode tab, with Search Queue.
• Improved "Vee Five Compact" preview template.

Online database improvements

• New american comic releases are now available in the database long before their release, so you can add them to your wish list.
  (Tip: use the New/Upcoming Releases tab in Add Comics Automatically to find em)
• New and upcoming releases will already have Preview Art, Plot and Creators.
• Preview Art is now downloaded into the new Preview Art field.
• Sollicitation data (direct from Diamond) is now downloaded into the Plot field.

Find Cover Image screen

• Find missing cover images online and add them to your database with just a few clicks. The screen shows results from Google Images, based on series, issue number, issue extension, edition, title and barcode.
• Built-in Crop tool to remove unwanted borders.
• Get to the Find Cover Image screen:
  • by clicking the new "No Cover" placeholder image in Details View.
  • right from Preview in the Add Comics Automatically screen, when no cover is found in the Collectorz.com online comic database.
  • from the right-click menu on any comic entry in the main screen.
  • from the Images tab in the Edit Comic screen.

Collection Statistics integrated in main screen

• When no comic is selected, the Details View panel now shows collection statisticsbased on the current Folder field (e.g. by Series or by Publisher)
• Statistics screen is now fully integrated in main screen, including all view settings (field selection, pie/bar, sorting, color style, 3D, print).
• "Old" Tools / Statistics screen is replaced by Tools / Database Totals.
• Lock button to lock field and pie/bar to your favorite settings.
• Navigate to a folder (e.g. Publisher="Marvel") by clicking a bar or pie part

Improved Wish List functionality

• Quickly check your Wish List using tabs at the bottom of the main screen: All / Collection / Wish List.
• Add comics to your Wish List right from the Add Comics Automatically screen.
• Right click a comic to "Move to Wish List" / "Move to Collection".
• Edit Comic: clearer separation of Collection Status values into "Collection" and "Wish List" groups.
• Updated terminology for the Collection Status values.
• Revamped icons for all Collection Status values.

Improved My Rating functionality

• My Rating now uses a 10-star rating.
• Redesigned rating stars.
• Click My Rating stars in Details View to modify rating in small pop up.
• Group comics into My Rating folders on main screen.

Improved Images View in main screen

• Removal of captions under images creates a cleaner layout (captions are still shown on mouse-over)
• Reduced spacing between image thumbs
• New placeholder image for comics without cover images
• New placeholder image for comics with a missing thumbnail image

New "Vee Five" Templates for Details View and Export to HTML

• Improved layout:
  • Larger covers in left and right corners
  • New look for My Rating stars (click to change rating)
