Searching by Author and Title
A convenient way to find books in the Collectorz.com online book database. Just enter the author name and the book title, hit Search Now and select the correct entry from the Search Results panel.
A few helpful tricks to be aware of...
- Watch the Format and Cover columns, they will help you find the best result.
- Double-click a result to preview its data in the Preview panel
- Can't find a matching edition? Then you can try adding a different edition of the same book and then edit the book details manually afterwards. This will still save you some typing.
- Can't find your book at all? (yes, this happens in rare cases) Then use the Add Anyway button to add the book anyway (with the Author and Title fields pre-filled using the info you entered for the search).
- You can add multiple books in one go, by checking the checkboxes to the left of multiple results and then clicking Add Checked. Comes in handy when adding all your Grisham books. Just enter "John Grisham" in the Author box, hit Search Now and check the ones you own.
Instant Info from the ISBN number
Searching by ISBN has several advantages...- It instantly returns only *one* result: the exact edition that you own.
- This one result is automatically shown in the Preview Panel, no double-click needed.
- Better chance of finding your edition, because for ISBN searches the Collectorz.com search engine performs what we call "Automatic On Demand Amazon Lookups". Which basically means that if our own database does not recognize your ISBN, it just asks Amazon.
The Queue Mode
Ready for some advanced stuff? Then let's try the Queue Mode, a way to do searching, selecting and adding in batch. Here's how to use it:- Switch to Queue Mode using the Show Queue button on the right. The Search Queue will appear and the Search Now button will be automatically be replaced by an Add to Queue button.
- Now, enter an ISBN Number or Author and Title and click Add to Queue. See how your search is added to the queue?
- Do the same with some more books.
- Once you have a couple of searches queued, hit the Search All button. Book Collector will now perform all searches in one go.
- When its done, you can start selecting results. Just select the first search in the queue and its results will appear below. But there's one important difference with the Search Now mode: Here, you have to select results by clicking the checkbox to the left of the result you want. This tells the program to remember your selection for this search.
- Do the same for all entries in the queue, each time selecting one checkbox.
- When you're done checking boxes, hit the Add All button. Book Collector
will now start downloading the details and images for all checked results.
Everything will be added automatically for you!
And it is essential when using one of our cool laser barcode scanners with built-in memory. These gadgets can automatically unload hundreds of barcodes into the queue, ready to be searched!
