About the iPod Notes systemOne of the cool features of the Apple iPod is the iPod Notes system. It lets you browse small hyperlinked text files on your iPod. Putting text files on your iPod for viewing through the Notes system is simple, just connect your iPod to your computer and copy the files to the Notes folder on the "Removable Drive" that appears in My Computer. You can find the Notes section under the Extras menu of your iPod (Tip: use Settings / Main Menu to include it in your main iPod menu). Browse your book collection on your iPodThe Export to iPod Notes feature in Book Collector (PRO edition only) lets you export a list of your books to the iPod Notes system.Take your iPod with you to the store and browse your collection right there on the spot, nicely grouped by author. Now you can always check which books you already own and thus avoid duplicate purchases. Check the iPod screenshots on the right for an impression of the results. These screenshots were made on an iPod Photo, the results may look different on other iPods. The Export to iPod feature will work on all iPods (regular, Mini, Nano, Photo and Video) except the iPod Shuffle (it doesn't have a screen). Using the Export to iPod Notes featureExporting your book list to your iPod is simple, just choose File / Export to / iPod Notes from the File menu and the Export to iPod Notes screen will open (see below).![]() Now connect your iPod to your computer and click the Find my iPod button. After the program has found your iPod, just click Export to have the program create the necessary files in the Notes folder on your iPod. Export Detail Pages or lists only?
The 1000 files limit in particular can be a problem when using the Export Item Details Pages. Each Item Detail Page is a separate file, so this means that when using this option the number of items you can export is limited to 1000 (maybe less if you have other files in your iPod Notes section already, e.g. created by one of the other Collectorz.com programs). To help overcome this limit, Book Collector lets you create an alternative "lists only" export, which will suffice for most in-store "avoiding duplicates" situations. Just uncheck the "Export Item Detail Pages" option. However, when using the "lists only" export, the 4kb size limit may come into play, e.g. when you own a huge number of books of a particular author, so that the complete list does not fit in one file. Book Collector automatically handles those situations by splitting that list into multiple files. Questions or problems?
