How do I print a list of all items in the database?
Set up the layout of your print: (the example is for Movie Collector)
First, click the Print button on the toolbar. This opens the Print screen.
On a Mac you will have to use the third drop down on the print screen to have the Movie Collector print settings shown.
On the print screen you can :
- select "All Movies".
- select "Use main screen setting" where it reads "Sort Order". This will print the movies in the same order as they appear on your monitor. You may also choose "Custom setting for printing" and click Edit to choose a different sort order.
On the Mac you can access the sort order button to define the order you wish the movies to be printed in.
- Click the Template tab for more settings.
On the Mac check the "select template" checkbox and use the drop down next to it to select your preferred template.
- On the Template tabpage, make sure "Customize Template" is selected and then choose "List Layout"
- Now click the Fields button to specify which fields you want included as columns in the list. This opens the "Column Field Selection" screen.
- Use the arrow buttons to select the fields you want to print (e.g. Title, Year, Director, Genre and Format)
Preview before you print
- Use the Print Preview button to see what the printed list will look like.
- Once you are satisfied with the Preview, click the Print button to print your list.
How can I print a selection of my database?
This is possible by selecting a number of items in the list first. The examples are for Movie Collector but will work the same way on the other Collectorz.com software.
Custom selection
In the main screen, you will see a spreadsheet like table. With the mouse, click on one item there, and use the control+click method (Mac: command+click). This means holding the control key on your keyboard while selecting a second, third movie etc.
Then you use the menu File | Print. On the Print screen, under "Items to Print", choose the Selected Items option. See the screenshot on the right. Note that the Selected Items option is only available if you selected one or more items in the list panel first.
Selecting a certain set of movies
In some cases you may first want to sort the list to make it easier to select a range of items. Use the menu View | Sort Order | Choose Sort Fields and mark the field you want to sort on. Choose for example "title" in case you are looking for an easy way to select all titles starting with the "A".
Now that the movies are sorted, click the first movie you want to print, hold down the Shift-key, and click the last item. This shift+click method is a general way in Windows to select a range of things.
Printing items of a certain genre or format
To print all movies that are listed as DVD, or all movies that are Science Fiction, there is a very easy way.
Use the folder mode to group your movies or books. This means use the menu View | Folders | [genre or format]. Now that all items are grouped, click on one group in the left tree. Now you can choose Edit | Select All. This will select all items in that folder.
Use the menu File | Print and choose "Selected Movies" to only print that set of movies.
Printing filter or search results
You can also print a list of items that are the result of a Quick Search or a Filter
First make sure you are in No Folder mode (choose View | Folders | No Folders). This way, the search results will be shown as a simple, "flat" list (as opposed to grouped in folders).
After doing the search, hit Ctrl-A to select all items in the list, then choose Print. In the Print screen, select the "Selected Items" option again.
The printed list does not appear in the correct sort order.
First, make sure you have specified the order in which you want the items to appear.
In the Print screen, under "Sort Order", select "Use main screen setting" to print the list in the order of the main screen.
You can fully customize the way in which you want to print through the use of templates.
Information on how to get started on creating your own templates, as well as installing some user submitted templates can be found in our Templates section.
You may also wish to use our Book Collector forum as an info source on specific viewing, exporting or printing questions and templates.
Our software has no build in Barcode printing functionality, but there are many handy (small) programs out there which will allow you to print these.
NOTE: XSL templates allow for great flexibility, which is why we chose this method. It also means the actual altering and creation of templates to any specific preference falls outside the scope of product support, and can not be performed as such by our Customer support people.
The latest versions of Movie- Book-, Music- Comic- and Game Collector have a print feature directly from the manage loans screen (use the menu Loans | Manage Loans).
In all other versions printing the list of loaned items is possible using the Filter feature in combination with the Selected Items option of the Print screen.
Here iss how to do so:
There is no direct way to print only certain pages (such as pages 1 through 3, or 1, 3 and 5).
A good alternative is to install a PDF writer. Most are even completely free. Try for example this CutePDF writer.
For other writers, just use any internet search engine, and search for the words "pdf writer free".
Such drivers will install as if they were a printer. This means they can be selected as a printer in the print menu : File | Print.
It will save instead of print, and create a PDF file. When you open the PDF with the Acrobat reader you can select page ranges to print. Can I use Book Collector to print labels?
