The CueCat
Installing the CueCat
The CueCat is a plug-and-play device, meaning that after connecting it to your computer with the USB cable, it's all set and ready to go. No additional installation is required.
You don't even need to use "Find Scanner" in your Collector software.
The "cat" behaves like an extra keyboard on your computer, so you can just put your cursor in the barcode box and scan a barcode. The barcode number will appear in the box, as if you have typed the numbers on your keyboard.
Using the Cuecat
Start up Book Collector and click Edit > Add books Automatically. Click inside the barcode field and scan the barcode by swiping it with the CueCat.
Tip: The No Scanner Found message (shown below) will appear when using both the Cuecat and C37 scanners. This is normal. As they are plug and play devices, our software does not need to recognise them. If you are having trouble with your scanner, please check out our FAQ.
Some scanning tips
- Hold the CueCat reader between your thumb and forefinger like a pen or pencil.
- Place the nose of the CueCat on the left side of the code, aligning the cat's "paws" slightly above the bottom of the code.
- Now move the CueCat reader smoothly from left to right across the code in one fluent motion.
- Try not to scan too slowly, the Cuecat works better if scanning is done in a rather quick fluent motion, not too slow, not too quick.
- Remember to keep the reader in contact with the code throughout the swiping movement for an accurate reading.

The Opticon C37
Installing the C37
The Opticon C37 barcode scanner is, just as the CueCat, a plug-and-play device and no additional installation is necessary. Just plug it in a free USB port and start using it.
How to scan with the C37
- Start your Collectorz.com software (PC or Mac version).
- Plug your scanner into a free USB port.
- Open the Add Automatically screen.
- Make sure your cursor is in the bar code/ISBN box in the Add Automatically screen.
- Now scan a barcode.
- The barcode shows up in your screen and the software automatically searches for the item's information online.
Tip: The No Scanner Found message (shown below) will appear when using both the Cuecat and C37 scanners. This is normal. As they are plug and play devices, our software does not need to recognise them. If you are having trouble with your scanner, please check out our FAQ.
The Opticon OPN-2001
The Opticon OPN-2001 laser barcode scanner is directly supported by the Collectorz.com programs, so setup is quick and easy:
Using Windows
- First, download and install the Opticon OPN-2001 driver from our Download page.
- Then, connect the scanner to your computer using the included USB cable.
- Start your Collectorz.com program and choose Tools > Find Scanner from the menu.
- After a few moments, the program will report that it has found the Opticon scanner.
- That's all there is to it! The scanner is now ready for use.
Note: you only have to "Find" the scanner once. In the future, you can just start your software and start scanning.
Using a Mac
*** Do not insert Mini CD's into your Mac slot drive. Ever. ***
- No need to install extra drivers, they are already included in your software.
- Just connect the scanner to your Mac using the included USB cable.
- Start your Collectorz.com program.
- Start scanning. (No need to click "Find Scanner")
- The software will automatically open the 'Add automatically' screen with the barcode field already filled.
Alternatively, you can walk up to your book case and scan a number of barcodes at a time. When you reconnect the scanner to your Mac, the Collectorz.com software will open the Advanced search screen and add all the scanned codes to the search queue.
Note: The Opticon OPN-2001 does NOT work with a Mac G4 or G5.
