Field Reference

In the Edit Book Screen you can add or edit you book data. Not just main Book and Author data, also personal data and cover images. You can open the Edit Book Screen by selecting the album and clicking Edit > Edit Book, or by double clicking the book in the main view of your list.

On the various tabs (Main, Details / Personal, People, Covers, Notes and Links) you see a lot of data fields. But what exactly should you enter in the Title Sort data field? And what about the Cat. Number field? Let's explain these Field Names.

Most of the fields by the way have pre-set information. You can add and edit the fields in most of these lists with the Tools > Edit Lists option.

Main tab

Title
In the Title field you actually, well, just enter the title of the book :)

With the two icons at the top right of this field, you can set the Capitalization options for your entries.

Title Sort
This relates to the sorting of your albums. For example with the book 'The Real Frank Zappa Book', the title sort could be 'Real Frank Zappa Book'. Or, if you prefer, you could have Book Collector sort the book under 'Frank Zappa'. With this filed filled out, Book Collector will use it to sort.

With the two icons at the top right of this field, you can set the Sorting options for your entries. More about this in the topic about sorting.

Subtitle
This field can be used to add a Subtitle like: Wintersmith, or A Story of Discworld.

ISBN
The ISB number of the book.

Format
The format of the book can be specified here (hardcover, paperback, e-book, magazine, etc.). You can add formats to this list by typing them in the Format Field, or to edit the list under: Tools > Edit Lists

Well...

LoC Classification
This is where you can enter the Library of Congress Classification of the book.

Dewey
Here you can enter the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC, also called the Dewey Decimal System).

Genre
Choose a from a couple of pre-defined Genres, and/or add a Genre at the bottom (just enter a new genre and click: the button with the green plus sign).

Subject
Choose a from a couple of pre-defined Subjects, and/or add a Subject at the bottom (just enter a new genre and click: the button with the green plus sign).

Author
Select an Author from your Author List, or add one by clicking the Add Author Icon (the little man on top with the green plus sign.

Pseudonym
Select an Author's Pseudonym from your Author List. You can not enter a Pseudonym directly, you can only select one, from the Existing Authors in your collection/Author List. More on Pseudonyms in Managing Pseudonyms.

Publisher
Enter the name of the publisher here.

Publication Date
Date of publication can be entered here. When you want to enter a book to your collection that is not yet published, you can simply type the year (that lies beyond 2010) in the field.

Country
Select a country from the drop down box, or a add the country by typing it in the field.

Language
Select a language from the drop down box, or a add the language by typing it in the field.

Collection Status
Here, you can set the collection status of your book. In Collection, For Sale, On Order, Wanted and Not In Collection.

Index
The Index Field. This field is automatically increased by 1, as soon as book is added to your collection. If need be, you can manually change it here.

Quantity
If you have more than 1 copy of a book, you can set the quantity here. Note: when you loan a book to someone and you are using the Loan Manager, Book Collector will not descrease the number of items. It will loan out all issues at once, since it's a single entry. If you want to be able to lend out books (and you have more than one copy), you should enter each copy as a separate item and not use the Quantity field.

Clear Clz ID
Clicking this button will remove all Clz data attached to your book.

Rating
With this slider, you can rate your book from 0-10 stars.

Details Tab

Series
If the book is part of a series, you can add the name of the series here.

Issue No.
Select an Issue Number here.

Box Set
Use this to store the box set title for your books.

Volume
Select a Volume from the drop down box, or a add one by typing it in the field.

Edition
The book's edition.

First Edition
Check if First Edition.

Printed By
Add the printer's here.

Print
Enter the edition of the Printing of the book.

Paper Type
Select a Paper Type from the drop down box, or a add one by typing it in the field.

Dimensions
Enter the Dimensions of the book. (You can change between mm and inches via the Options screen)

Audio Book - Length / Abridged
Enter the length of the audio book (check: Abridged if abridged)

Original Title
If the book has been published before under a different Title, you can add it here.

Original Sub Title
If the book has been published before under a different Sub Title, you can add it here.

Original Published
If the book has been published before by a different Published, you can add it here.

Original Publication Date
If the book has been published before, you can add the original Publishing Date here.

Original Country
If the book has been published before in a different country, you can select a country from the drop down box, or a add the country by typing it in the field.

Original Language
If the book has been published before in a different country, you can select a language from the drop down box, or a add the language by typing it in the field.

Extras
You can specify the any extras that apply to the book. Perhaps it came in a special gift box, or with a t-shirt. At the bottom, you can add an extra yourself, too. Just type it in and click the Add Extras button.

Personal Tab

Owner
Select an Owner, or add one by typing it in the field.

Location
Select a Location for the physical storage of your book or add one, by typing it in the field.

Dedication
Use this to define a dedication.

Rare
Check if Rare.

Purchase Date
When you bought (or were presented with) the book.

Price
Original Purchase Price of the book.

Store
Store where the album was bought.

Condition
Mint, almost mint, used or scratched beyond repair.

Cover Price
Price printed on the Cover.

Current Value
Current Value of your album.

Condition
Choose a condition, or add one by typing it in the field.

Read It
Check if read.

Times Read
Select how many you've read the book.

User Lookup 1 and User Lookup 2
Use these fields to a personal value to your book, that you can not find a default field for.

User Text 1 and User Text 2
Two more fields you can add a value to, that you can not find a default field for.

Tags
Add tags to your book here. Use one tag per line (enter a tag and press enter to add a new tag).

Credits & Characters Tab

Credits
You can add additional Credits, using these fields. Clicking on the People Icon with the green + sign.
Changing or Editing a Credited person can be done by clicking the Arrow Icon (change) or the Pencil Icon (edit). And yes, the Red Cross Icon is for removing.

Characters
You can add additional Characters, using these fields. Clicking on the People Icon with the green + sign.
Changing or Editing a Character can be done by clicking the Arrow Icon (change) or the Pencil Icon (edit). And yes, the Red Cross Icon is for removing.

Contents Tab

If your book consists of multiple stories, articles or chapters, you can add the information for each article, story or chapter here. Just click the Add Story/Article button on the top left.

Plot & Notes
Add Plot and Notes here. The fields accept basic HTML-tags, so you can customize your Plot and Notes if you want to.

Covers tab

Here you can add covers (front and back) to your book. You can either look for an image on your computer (click: Browse), or find one online directly from Book Collector (Find Online). When you have a scanner installed you can even directly scan an images, by clicking Acquire.

When you want to replace the image that is there, click the Clear button first, before you add a new image. Clicking Settings will open the .

The Links Tab

An interesting tab. Here you can add links to website or other online information, as well as to files that are stored on your computer. Handy, indeed, if you want to add more images to an album, or when you want to add a link to an artist's homepage.
